Painted_Doll: " Currently Steam is down"

Honestly , who cares ?

mechmouse: Didn't you read my entire post

My daughter

But me... I'm doing the happy dance of smugness
Now aim for the punchline and gift her the gog version of Civ4 :D

qwixter: That was my first thought too. If it was due to overload, it would have happened yesterday.

Per OP, your daughter should just be able to switch to offline and play. I have the family pc setup for offline and it works fine.
avatar
mechmouse: Nope. She using her account (because it has her friend list) and CIV5 is my game. SFS games don't play if borrower is offline.
Ok, I have never played around with that feature. I just use the same account, then on other PC, it always has to be used offline.

mechmouse: Currently Steam is down, or at least seriously hobbled by the huge number of people rushing to buy cheap games they will never actually play.

One unfortunate side effect of this is my Daughter can't play my SFS "shared" copy of CIV5.

She has had access to my 80 game steam library since I left the platform 3 years ago and has enjoyed mocking me over my No-Steam stance.

I feel so smug!
This is definitely more than a rush of customers. This is a DDoS.

This just shows why we need to "diversify our portfolios"...I've started to buy games on GoG for these very events. It's not like you have to "change teams", but there is no reason to not buy a game from GoG once in a while, especially when it's the same price or cheaper.

I doubt that's the reason, since Steam was working fine yesterday, and the start of the sale is when the largest number of crowds gathers. I'm guessing it's a DDOS or something.

I've offered to install my copy of CIV4, but she's playing with a friend.

I did offer to buy her friend a copy of CIV4, but not sure how to play CIV4 online multiplayer.

Please refer to my earlier post.
Not nearly dead enough. Ah well, we can dream.
R.I.P.

Internal combustion engines are the future I guess.

No. I've just been on the internetz too long. Everything starts repeating itself after a while. Like that fucking cat in the Matrix. Someone keeps hitting the RESET button.

fishbaits: Unusually, it's almost all of steam that is dead.
Normally it's just a few parts.

Yet more proof that DRM is shite.
You do know that you can play your games even if Steam is down?

Can't she settle for Civilization III (or IV)?
