Stupid question, but honestly, i am not trolling this time... Are there any steam games that do not require steam client for you to install them, finish installing them etc., much like any game here on gog? Besides playing them outside steamworks environment, without steam itself, as this fine thread here discusses?

Some retail games include optional steam key. Steam Console Client is another way to install steam games. If you're asking about regular backup/offline installer, no, I haven't seen one.

I think Prey was one of them as well as Unreal Tournament 3
Retail / Digital CD Keys list might be helpful.

pedrovay2003: Thanks for checking! Thomas Was Along seems to already be on the list, so we're good there (I don't know if it was just recently added, or if it's been there for a while).
Yes, I added it not long ago. You can also delete all the steam dlls from the game directory safely without affecting the game at all.

BTW: Isn't it great that this thread her now survives without the usual remarks? :) Great pedrovay that you finally found a wording which everybody agrees to.

One question: Has anybody managed to get the ingame achievements working in the steam version of Surgeon Simulator without steam running?

pedrovay2003: Oh, snap, I didn't know this had been released here! I'm all kinds of good with that.

Ooh, this is interesting. Origin doesn't run AT ALL when you start it with the shortcut?

Elmofongo: Not at all from how much I played, I ever remember playing it when I absolute have no internet connection.

And I assume the same can be said for Crysis Warhead though I have never played it.
Since I have experienced a similat thing with Origin Dead Space I have one question: does the game even start after deinstalling Origin completely? That was the moment my Dead Space did not want to start anymore.

I assume its obvious that completely uninstalling Origin from your computer would also delete the game?

It doesn't. Had to reinstall Origin to stop it from downloading the same update every single time I launched it. This didn't fix the bug, but all my games were still there.

You mean Crysis 1 would still remain installed and playable even if I competely uninstall Origin?

Installed yes, playable, I've no idea. I haven't actually tried to run anything while Origin was uninstalled.

Yes, it still will be there. If it still will be playable that is my question. If you fear that Origin will uninstall your games too (which is not the case) just rename your game folder before uninstalling Origin and after testing you can reinstall Origin.

At this point I will just play it safe and keep Origin installed.

Besides I am planing on retrying to Mass Effect Trilogy but I need 1 essential DLC for both 2 and 3 (Overlord and Omega respectively)

pedrovay2003: Well, that's awesome. I don't remember if I have Crysis in my Origin account (since I haven't had Origin installed for a long time), but I'm going to have to try that. Thanks for the info!

ThePunishedSnake: Thomas was Alone is another game you don't need Steam to boot it.
