I still see a valid criticism of the game, and just as SOME gamergaters were actually concerned about legitimate censorship of personal opinions, so I am concerned about legitimate opinions being boo-ed down by the "you're not allowed to have that opinion" crowd.

It's the same criticisms that were leveled at Gone Home (which I personally liked), at being a non-game/walking simulator and really having no story to speak of. And of the sales pitch of marketing tragedy or edginess.

It was the homophobic rants that came with the criticism that we don't need. Or slams against minorities/women.

Or criticizing the developers' religion / faith and the size of their family.

Hmmm?
Tallima, I am sorry to hear of your struggles. I hope you both see an end to the pain and fear and begin to enjoy all the adventures a healthy young child can get into, with you chasing after him yelling exasperatedly for him to slow down or he'll poke his eye out :-)

There are so many games out there that I would not touch with a ten foot pole. I think they are stupid, pandering, obnoxious, idiotic gameplay, masochistic gameplay, crap graphics, glitch fests, obvious money grabs, devious mind control, podium thumping shills, offensive, or just plain boring and dull and without merit.

But in no way will I speak for everyone elses opinion on them. For every one of those games has a fan base. In the end if it sells then someone likes it and Steam is just a store front, no matter how much they try to spruce themselves up.

I do believe there is needed a more definitive tagging system for this new genre of games that are little more than interactive novels (I dont know if this game is that but just in general), remove the game tag off them to avoid confusion and disappointment from customers who expect more interaction when seeing 'adventure game', 'role playing game' etc etc

doronnorod: The dev has a big family and more kids on the way with a pregnant wife yet he acts as if its the end of the world if he loses one of his old age insurance policies cough cough I mean kids.
I can't understand this sentiment at all, whether it's an only child or 1 child out of 4 children parents love them just the same and their death hurts them just as much.

tort1234: I saw the trailer. It is not a game.

I cannot bring myself to sympathize with the idiot who made this game.

I googled the guy who made this lame art form. He and his wife have four kids already. He lost one to cancer.

Whoop dee doo, lets cry a river about it. He still has three kids left and his wife is preggo again so he should stop whining.

These religious idiots do nothing but breed. If they loose one of the many kids, they act like the world has ended.
Wow, what a point of view! You mean, a kid is something like, let`s say, a book or something else? If it get`s destroyed/killed than it doesn`t matter cause you can always make a new one? You really don`t understand much about human beings, right?
Well, go back to Mars or Alpha Centauri or where you come from, cause we`ve seen thru your disguise so you can`t hide among us anymore!!!
Today's generations...completely disconnected emotionally, despite having more means to connect than their moms, dads, gramps, granmas and so on....

And i'm sorry, but life is not something to quantify. 1 or a billion or a trillion will still matter. That we frag up as a society, as a race, that is on us. It's all us.

And looking through the thread...only one (ONE) person noticed what Tallima wrote....
Well, there will always be people enforcing their beliefs of what is and is not a game, as a way to disparage anything they don't like and rob it of meaning. As for the religion aspect, the backlash doesn't surprise me, there are some atheists out there I could only describe as zealots.

I like unique experiences in my games, but I lost family members to cancer in the past, I don't know if I'd be up to playing this, maybe someday.

If anything, I think this topic has been good for at least recognizing some members sockpuppet accounts...
Steam only devs are the worst. :)

They're exclusive.

OP:

“I'm really asking myself if it's worth doing it (in terms of time and money) if it ends up like that....”

The Internet is the sort of place where anyone can bash whatever you do. If you want to be publicly creative, that is just going to happen. Because the Internet gives random strangers the power to criticize absolutely everything you make public, without even the basic accountability associated with looking people in the face when you talk trash about them.

I suppose it might be useful to ask why you’d want to make a creative project of that sort and then publicize (publish) it, irrespective of the possible backlash.

If the reason is good and the project is good, then public backlash from random opinionated strangers is just an unfortunate side effect of the Internet.

If either the reason is bad or the project won’t be good when finished, random opinionated strangers aren’t the biggest problem.

Either way, it's not really about them.

No, I just glossed over the point because the point was fully made several months ago and should now just be taken to the sea and drowned. Imo.

Thanks! I wrote my post poorly due to sleep-deprivation. Company of Heroes + early work hours = tired Tallima. :) So my grammar and spelling really made the post a tough read.

Anyway, he's "alright" right now. Mostly good, anyway. He has a very messed up back, but right now he's running around and poking his eye out. But in a few months, he'll be having another big surgery.

We've grown accustom to these surgeries, but 3 surgeries ago he almost bled out. That one taught us a healthy amount of fear.

So after this one (in March), he'll be down for a month, and then in rough shape for 6 after. But then he'll be back on his feet. He won't be able to do any sports (which really pisses him off :D), but he'll be fine. He'll have a small surgery every 6 months after this one to update his back and then another big one in 3-4 years and then they'll fuse his whole spine when he's 14 or so -- that'll be a big one.

Once we had our son, we learned that we're hardly anything special. Many, many, many people deal with hardships with their family's health. It's part of life. It's a tough part, but it's also filled with many joys, encouragements and massive heaps of love.
