Chris Remo works for Double Fine, Gamasutra is an industry driven news blog, are indie developers and [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Refenes]Tommy Refenes is another indie developer. Of all those there, it is only Kotaku who is more or less the standard game journalist thingy.

I've read a few impressions now and every one that has used the thing is impressed with it, how you immediately notice how much more responsive it is and how it really does feel like you are pressing buttons. Plus the four face buttons are apparently just place holders until the touch pad is added.
This could be the biggest thing to happen to game controllers since the N64, how about we at least give it a chance before getting out the pitch forks?

So in my opinion :
- Double fine is not in a position to create waves actually.
- Gamasutra and kotaku are in the media world, so they have probably financial ties somewhere.
- Indie developper have much to lose to get in bad relation with Steam, but it would be the more enlightening opinion I think.
Bottom line, Steam has so much ties in the industry that finding an unbiased opinion may be hard (apart TB I don't know who I would condfidently listen to ....)

This Steam controller (along with Big Picture) just seems to be like a desperate attempt to get console players onto Steam.
Oh, and FYI Wing Commander, FreeSpace and simulation games I've played are perfectly playable with mouse.

I'm not sure what part of 'Into the living room' is passing you by though.

So for a desktop-only PC gamer, I don't expect it to make anything better. But then again, neither do classic gamepads, yet many desktop users use gamepads with many PC games, just because those games were designed for console-type gamepads.
For me the most irritating thing in console gamepads has been the lack of precision aiming, akin mouse. That's why I've been talking before how nice it could be if console gamepads had e.g. a small thumb trackball, like Apple Pippin controller had.
This is once again a gamepad that tries to address the lack of precision aiming on gamepads. Kudos for that, I hope it works for that purpose. Maybe sometime in the future I will not bemoan of console FPS games with their poor controls anymore.

And if you are slightest interested in game development in general, you should check out Gamasutra, it is a really good resource.(and no, they have no ties to Valve....), Gamasutra is owned by Unite Business Media, and they pride themselves on giving all equal opportunity. They work on a completely different business model than for example Kotaku. Most articles are written by people in the industry, and the staff is mostly editorial, not journalistic. They are the sister magazine to IndieGames.com. It is a good source, and just all the post postmortems they have are worth it. In the end, I trust more of what I find on Gamasutra over the angry brits random personal opinions (fun as they might be).

Putting that aside, if you want to believe that all those devs are lying about their experiences with the controller, that's fine of course. I'll be skeptical till the day I try it probably, if I ever do.

low rated
And who the hell plays games in the living room? Oh right, consoletards. So this is just basically a way for in-denial console gamers to play console ports on PC on the couch with a controller pretending it's a console but while not having to worrying about the issues of consoles themselves - limited graphical, processing, memory and HDD space. Delicious hypocrisy.

Newsflash: The game does not have aiming down the sights, so its inferior to games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Arma 2-3 ;)
