Arcen Games just released their latest game, Starward Rogue, and according to a developer on Rock Paper Shotgun, GOG initially rejected it but let them know if they have a strong launch or we show interest in it, we'll get it here.

So let GOG know! I'd love to buy it here as I'm a huge fan of Arcen games in general.

Here's a link to the wishlist, too: Starward Rogue

And here's a link to the RPS article with the dev comment: RPS

Voted. I've been an ardent supporter of Arcen Games -- sad that we'll have to support them on HB or Steam.

If GOG starts to experience stagnation in the growth of its catalog then it only has itself to blame, for thinking that games are "too niche" for them on the basis of Steam sales figures.
Voted. It looks good.

Hahaha, good old GOG and their "wait and see" approach.

Crap like this is exactly why I've become more comfortable with buying Steam/Humble. It's one thing for a developer to be ardently pro-DRM, it's an entirely different thing when GOG encourages me to get stuff I like somewhere else.
No no no! Don't encourage them to stop making 4X games!
Friendly bump so this gets more eyes!

"Wait and see" is the most stupid thing you can do as a store. If GOG decides to release the game in two or three months, because it sold well on Steam, Humble and other stores, everyone who wanted it will already have it on those stores (or wait for deep discounts).

Reviving 10+ years old (pre digital distribution) games is a great thing. Releasing three months old digital distribution only games is nonsensical.
Well, that will really be a win-win for Arcen, at least. People who want the game on gOg need to buy it elsewhere first to make sure it has a "strong release"... is it just me or is there something slightly off with gOg's logic here.
The game looks fun but I have one MAJOR problem with Arcen Games as a developer, they tend to not publish updates to DRM-Free stores and instead you have to use their updater to download the latest patches.

I discovered this ugly truth when I bought AI War: Fleet Command on GOG, as some of you are also aware, Arcen Games have made Bionic Dues free for a limited time on Humble Bundle this week and guess what, I had to download updates using their updater instead of having their latest version right off the Humble site.

In light of this I have to apologize to my fellow GOG'ers, but I have no intention of supporting such a developer. With that said, another rogue-lite game would have been nice to my collection but the lack of updates is a major turn off.

I actually didn't know this. Thanks for the info!

Do you think Arcen would use Galaxy instead to push updates, though?
If anybody is interested in the game do take part in my Starward Rogue giveaway here on gog: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/starward_rogue_arcen_games_giveaway

Well Arcen games is a very serious developer and sometimes you get 2-3 updates uploaded in a day in order to fix issues or upgrade the game. So you can either use their updater or galaxy. That's why gog can't keep up with their updates/fixes.

Well Starward Rogue already got three updates since release yesterday so you can see how very active these developers are. Basically they support all their games for a very longtime (meaning indefinitely).

Voted. Arcen games are normally pretty good or have at least an interesting twist.
I'll never get this approach. Games usually sell best when they are launched and this is not first time when GOG is willing to miss this time to only get the game later.
