Playing D2 right now. :D

Breja: I'll be honest, it's probably my least favourite Blizzard game untill WoW and the advent of "modern" Blizzard. I don't mean it's bad, don't get me wrong, but I never had as much fun with it as with any of the Warcrafts or Diablo not to mention good old Lost Vikings. To be embarrasingly honest, I never even finished it :P

F4LL0UT: To each their own. To me StarCraft was probably the last Blizzard game that I had no serious complaints about and it pretty much remains my favourite among all their games to this day.
I think I just like the story and the much more colorful (literally) setting of Warcraft way more than Starcraft. It's just more fun to get drawn into that world than Starcraft where everything is metal grey and barren wasteland dirt brown. Plus I really hate playing as the Zerg.
Happy birthday Starcraft, may the salt mine that is your soul never get depleted.

Don't you mean the Vespene Gas Geyser?
Starcraft is 20 years old...

...which makes me, let's see, carry the two...

FREAKING OLD!
Happy birthday! I was really happy when Blizzard finally released it for free. I even re-played the first Terran campaign, however I haven't had time for the rest.

The true currency of Starcraft is salt. When the salt is depleted, the game is dead.

iofhua: I'm the opposite. I liked the old Blizzard better. Starcraft, Warcraft 2, and Diablo 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games growing up.

WoW was okay, I liked BC and WotLK. But since Cata happened, it's been garbage. I don't like the new Blizzard. I haven't played any of their newer games and don't plan to.

They're going to do a classic WoW server soon, and I think I will play that. Most other MMO's still can't do what they did right, even after all these years.
Oh come on WOW is still a good game now, I mean driop the whole "It sucked since Cata" Cata had good things going for it regardless. It was just the victim of rushed development. Had they delayed it and added all the missing features they promised, it would have been an awesome expansion.

And you'd be surprised how many people in the WOW forums venerate the Panda expansion.

Warlords of Draenor ended up being worse than Catacylsm.

Legion so far saved WOW from shit that is WOD.

Acriz: But the story... oh boy. From a decent Space Opera to a standard 'the chosen will save the universe'-plot.
And, believe it or not, it gets MUCH worse in the other campaigns. Especially Heart of the Swam felt like it was written by an eight-year-old or, well, at least with eight-year-olds in mind.

Kerrigan went from Evil Queen Bitch of the Universe to Mary Sue Holy Angel of Light, Fire, and Lawful Goodness :P
Who plays Starcraft for the story? Nostalgia tinted glasses aside, the story is mediocre when compared to any other medium. The story is just an excuse to justify the gameplay.

But I can agree with one thing, the story for Starcraft gets worse and worse the more the story progresses. Legacy of the Void was a boring snooze fest with unlikabale characters with tiresome motivations.

Okay we get it, shit story, but that isn't enough to keep me from great gameplay which SC 2 does deliver.

To me it's like refusing to drive a Ferrari because it's not your favorite color. :P

Favorite color? Oh no, more like someone smeared the Ferrari with feces. Only those that takes a ride in it anyways will appreciate what's beneath the hood.

And besides, while you're driving and having the time of your life you wont notice the poop.

I refuse to play SC2 because Blizzard chose to use gamespeed as an artificial way to make the game harder. To me it is a bit like if in Quake or Doom selecting the hardest difficulty setting would also make the game run twice as fast. Sure it would make the game harder then, but it is just stupid. I don't lose a mission because I make poor tactical decisions, but because I can't do several things at the same time across the map fast enough.

The only game where I accept extra gamespeed as a difficulty element is Tetris.

To me RTS games should not be how fast you can use your mouse and keyboard, but still about tactical decisions, even if it means pausing the game time to time. The first Starcraft didn't have this issue as it let you slow the game down to crawl any time you want. e.g. when things got hectic and your actions were needed in multiple places at the same time.
