Locked and loaded. With cool stuff!

Starbound, the sandbox action/RPG where you explore and plunder a procedurally generated universe, has received the 1.2 Vault Update, courtesy of Space Santa! It's full of some welcome fixes and plenty of sweet additions, the most important of which are:

- Ancient Vaults: A mysterious Outpost trader will send accomplished players on a perilous quest inside procedurally generated dungeons, that will test both their skills and appetite for treasure!
- Terraforming: Some of the mysterious devices you retrieve from the Ancient Vaults have the power to transform regions or even entire planets into different biomes. Pretty neat, huh?
- Weapon upgrades and elemental damage: Take advantage of the ancient anvils inside the Vaults to enhance your legendary weapons but make sure they remain effective against the various monsters with resistance or weakness to certain types of elemental damage.
- Holiday Spirit: The jolly Space Santa brings you a supply of festive items to help spread the joy across the galaxy!

There are many more surprises hiding inside the Vault Update for Starbound, but to unlock them all, you'll need to brave the dangers and mysteries of its peculiar planets! If you want to prepare yourself for all the changes, go ahead and check out the full list here.

The links in the article take me to the Everspace game page.
Finally!
I haven't spent enough time with Starbound to actually know what any of it means or if anyone was waiting for it.. but hey, update.

I haven't figured out what the point of actually building a shelter is in this game, maybe this update will show me.

It's a feature: Cross-genre marketing I call it!

PS: Thanks, fixed.
What are the odds.
Right when I play it for 20 hours it get an update.

I doubt that. This game certainly lacks "I care about this world" element. Boss fights are in unmodifiable locations so no arenas to help you win, and building shelter to deal with mook monsters is overkill. Building anything in this game only has aesthetic purpose I guess, and new terraforming only expands that. But there are all kinds of players out there, I'm sure some of them will apreciate the terraforming option. There is enough new stuff for everyone, not only for builders, and it's a free update - nothing to complain about.

Oh I'm not complaining. I love the game, I was just always fascinated with that aspect of it being more aesthetic than anything else.
So I've been holding off on this game because I've heard that it came out buggy and feature incomplete...is it finally time to jump on board?

Well, it would still get an update even if you don't play it. :P
I've been waiting for a sale to grab this and Terraria on sale. Maybe some other indie games i've been interested in. Unfortunately the past few sales have had none of these games on sale. Why is it when Steam has a big sale almost everything in their store is on sale but on GOG we have to wait and hope for the right bundles (another problem) and even then a lot of games still don't go on sale. Times are real rough right now so almost everything i buy is during a sale. And i'm always tempted to just buy the things i want on Steam because i never know when or if things will go on sale on GOG, even during your big sales (winter, summer etc).

Sorry for the sorta off topic rant.

I hear you. I've been wanting to get my hands on Starbound for some time. But, unfortunately, paying almost 15$ for a game isn't very easy right now.
Why lock the content behind the main storyline quest, which is so boring?
