tinyE: Just to show you I'm not being a dick, Khan is great, Voyage Home is great, First Contact is totally fucking amazing, but I think I'll give a 'B' to the rest save for 'Search for Spock' which totally lost me somewhere during the opening credits. XD
I think giving a B to Star Trek V and Insurrection/Nemesis is way too kind.

tinyE: *ahem* The Emperor would have died regardless and without him (most likely Vader as well), and while the battle of Endor would have been a tragic defeat, the Empire still would have been a lame duck and the rest of the War would have been a cake walk for the surviving Rebels.
Would he now. I think if the Ewoks had chosen not to side with Solo, Luke would have felt the waves through the force, and knowing his teddy bears had abondoned him collapsed to will of Vader and the Empire, thus leading him to join the dark side and the empire went on to reign the universe for a millenia, all because of the Ewoks, mwwaahahaha.

Insurrection is a good movie. I really enjoyed that one.
Star Wars was the best when it had eastern philosophy, rotoscoped lightsabers, and Frank Oz with his hand up yoda's green butt. Star Wars since the prequels... well, even the special editions really, have pretty much sucked the big Bantha stick.

So Star Trek wins by default for simply not sucking as bad.

I'm not so sure, given that in the EU the Imperial Remnant was still a viable threat to the New Republic, IIRC. And they had various kinds of advanced hardware in the pipeline that, in a very World War II-esque way, would have easily kept the balance of power in favor of the Empire...had the Emperor not kept on insisting on going all-in on ridiculous superweapons.

awalterj: I very much prefer Star Wars, way more fun without all the semi-scientific exposition. In Star Trek, most aliens look like humans with makeup on, constantly reminding you that they are in fact humans with makeup on. I'm also not a fan of all the cheap, lazy and gratuitously used "shake in the cockpit and appear alarmed at off-screen problem" scenes. We all know you're just shaking the camera -_-
You know, there is a reason why "Best movie" isn't the same category as "best visual effects and make up".

Besides, Star Wars never made anything as impressive visually as Star Trek The Motion Picture.

My inner child was so disappointed to see the desert monster pit in Return of the Jedi turned into a giant chicken beak monster by George.

One of my favorite scenes in all Star Wars, changed to a big chicken. -.-

rampancy: I was originally thinking about the goody goody Federation as commonly depicted in TOS/TNG (as opposed to parts of DS9 or movies like ST VI where it wasn't so one dimensional). i assume you're talking about the novels? I'd like to know what novels/stories, as now you've got my curiosity piqued.

darthspudius: Actually if you keep an eye out through out TNG, DS9 and the movies there is a lot of subtle sub plots etc that hint that the federation aren't all goody goody. Especially with the likes of Odo and the Klingons. Racism and genocide.

And Palpatine would merge with an ewok to rule for millenia as a ewok-human hybrid God Emperor of Endor.

You guys are too good. I thought I knew those movies but I seem to be somewhat outclassed here. :D

Even scarier metaphor is that Lucas turned a man eating sand vagina into a giant man eating penis. Think of it in those terms and you start to get a creepy insight into Lucas's head.

Yay! Although that high voltage electricity would play havoc with his fur.

You certainly give me more credit than I'm due. A lot of what I know about the SW EU post-RotJ comes from the comics and the first edition of the Star Wars Guide to Vehicles and Vessels. While I've yet to read them myself I'm told that Timothy Zahn's Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy of books is really good, and offers a good look at what a post-Endor Empire might look like if Vader and Palpatine were permanently gone.

If we're gonna do this, we need uniforms and t-shirts.
