Nerevar.220: Really, in real world terms, these movies' plot involves nazi Germany being defeated but not destroyed, allowed to rearm and develop nukes while the allies disarmed 99% of their forces, and most of the world surrendering after the UN gets nuked.
This.

People will be people, sadly. You have to throw all logic about behavior out the window to believe the political plot would happen at all. Ditto with Han, Leía, and Luke.
Greedo shot first.

Alderaan shot first.

Luke has OCD.

wpegg: But... if the camera were outside the cockpits, surely we wouldn't be able to breathe?
XD
Well, in all SW there seem to be camera drones everywhere :P

tinyE: I don't think anyone ever associated with Star Wars ever intended the movies to be seen as even remotely realistic.
Did you even read my reply to you? :\

Yes, but your reply (about unrealism) completely ignores what I just explained.
Both fantasy and scifi need some rules (to be good and not junk).

Btw, Star Wars is fantasy (the force) + scifi (the future tech).

Breja: one guy really tried to defend Leia's "Superman Returns" scene, and you know what? He actually made some good points.
Please enlighten me.
Explain to me a Leia without any "force training" who became superhuman.
Or maybe Luke trained her? (when and why?)
But Luke's power was s**t compared to resurrecting in space and flying..
The salt planet (Hoth 2) scene was looking so cool.. and then it was just a projection (from afar, but still anticlimactic).

Also:
- why didn't Leia ever use the force for other things other than saving herself?
- what about the new bulls**t that "the light side balances with the dark side" automatically?
Once Snoke died, Kylo should have increased their powers immensely (at least before Luke died too).
He would have destroyed Rey.

I saw this one over the Christmas break and... wow, what a hot mess. Marginally better than the prequel movies. Marginally. But ye gods, I don't understand what happened to the writers on this one. They must have - actually I don't have any idea what they did, but whatever it was, it didn't work.

I'm not saying I agreed with him, just that he made some good points - that you could probably "pull" and keep around you oxygen from the bridge, and that if Jedi push and pull things pushing yourself towards the ship wouldn't be much of a problem, and doing so in zero-g would actually be easier than lifting things on a planet surface. No idea how or when Leia would learn any of it (there is no evidence she had any training, and in fact the new EU if I'm correct states pretty clearly she turned down Luke's offer of training), or why she wouldn't use her apparently powerfull force abilities at any other time.

Still, what I mean is that we nitpick at this scene and argue about what she could and could not do because the scene comes right the fuck out of nowhere and looks really silly. There's a shitload of things that don't make sense in the magical world of Star Wars, but as long as it's presented well we roll with it because it's fun.

I think the way they try to explain it it would rather mean that some new powerful dark side user will be born to replace Snoke now. I don't know though. Either way, I guess Anakin's supposed role of the chosen one who will bring balance to the force was not needed at all, if the thing balances itself :P Then again the only guy to mention the whole "force balancing itself" thing was Snoke, and i there's one thing this movie established it's that Snoke was an idiot, so maybe it's all bullshit.

Well, apparently the only writer was the director himself. That even sounds prequel-y :P

I don't think having different people write the movies of what was always supposed to be a coherent trilogy was a good idea.

Do people remember this: https://www.snopes.com/college/homework/writing.asp

I kind of get the feeling with JJ coming back for the next episode that this is what we're seeing.
One more thing.

This thread has officially made me hate ALL OF THE MOVIES!!! :P

From now on I'm going to dedicate my life to The Twilight films. :D

Have you tried the Auralnauts re-cut? that might help bring you back to the light side:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSCm8yAxBr8&list=PLINl9l0igYjzIipxsD4Y59_Jjxe4N3pZo

Yeah, the new concept is so stupid.
Also, now force users pop out of nowhere already with powers (e.g: the kid at the end).

It's really just "campy" sci-fi, or was -- now it's a pretentious delusion of grandeur.

The term "sci-fi" should be applied loosely, because good sci-fi doesn't stretch itself completely beyond the limits of credulity. "The Force", done right, could be a metaphysical or parapsychological phenomenon; doing it right, however, would require top-notch writers and direction, which would cost far more than the mass media shlockmeisters are willing to spend for the benefit of the uncultured masses.
Ok, this isn't exactly about the Last Jedi, but about the Han Solo movie - am I the only one who feels really super weird about a new Star Wars movie coming out in just five months? And even weirder, there's been zero promotional material so for. No trailers, not even a teaser. Not even an official poster, or a single character photo. In fact, there's very little buzz about that movie at all, other than when the original directors got replaced and the production restarted. A Star Wars movie with this little hype is just so bizarre.
