Probably. I'm not going to watch the new movies anyway. Tbh, I've always thought many of the Star wars video games (Jedi Knight, Kotor etc.) are actually better than even the original movies.

I think "better" is not correct term. Yes, KotOR does explain Force in more detail (when you speak about it to Jedi and Sith) but you simply couldn't put all that "There is no death, there is a Force" in the movie. Games (and books) more like grow up, they use the basics that was shown in the movies and refine, polish it, grant it more depth. The very depth, that Disney just thew away in new movies.

Seen the movie tonight but had to take my son out to the toilet just as prepartions for the final battle on the old Rebel base were getting underway. One thing I couldn't figure out after missing this bit was what was the deal with the salt? The runner ships where spraying red stuff out - what was that all about? Was there any relevance in that to the battle?

Yeah they didn't explain the red, but it made it look cool. :P As for the salt, I have a theory about that. Because Ep VII so obviously took off from the original movies, they seem to set that up in this one only to go the other direction, as kind of a jab at Ep VII and all the people who thought this was going to be a repeat of "Empire".
When you first see the white landscape you think, "SNOW!!! HOTH!!! Empire ripoff!" I know I did. Pretty sure the director wanted the audience to think that so he could zing us with the trooper putting hand through it and saying "Salt."

heartburnron: Ok thanks. So were the runner ships pouring out the red salt as I means of propulsion? As for the salt, I have a theory about that. First, it looked good.
Second, SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
It made foot prints easy to see which is key to Luke's return. He's the only one out there not leaving red tracks behind him thus giving a clue to us that he really isn't there.

tinyE: I don't think so. When they start those ships, Fynn I think, can't get control of his and Poe yells something like "lower that *whatever*". The ships seemed to dig into the ground for balance digging up the red underneath. It was clearly salt on top of a red soil/dirt and it had it a few visual reasons. Class movie. I had tears welling up when Yoda made an appearance!

There's more visual indications even more easily noticable - he's using the lightsabre we just saw get destroyed, and his beard and hair are different - he looks the way he did when Kylo last saw him.

Remind me, did Rey have a sabre at the end of the movie?

Only that one in two halves. Probably minus the crystal given the "boom" when it broke. I guess with the books and the broken one for refrence she will build a new one no problem. The crystal will only be as much problem as they want it to be, from mcguffin of the movie to not mentioned at all.

Have done. Although are we not safe to assume anyone who hasn't seen the movie shouldn't be reading through a thread discussing it? Actually I already know there will be but I have little sympathy for them...
