Same here. It raises interesting questions about when a creative work belongs to popular culture as much as the creator. Starwars also has the added intensity of being a childhood icon, and messing with that is always like navigating a minefield. The safest path is to follow System Shock: Enhanced Edition’s example and include the original version alongside the new version.

The problem a lot of people have is that the main characters in this movie happen to be a woman and black guy.
This pandering to minority people is getting ridiculous.

What next, you will have a Filipino transgender person in a wheel chair using light saber to fight off gay pansexual woman who was born a man ????

This political correctness annoys me.

It was white male fans that made star wars famous. NOT women NOT black men.

The first star wars movie came out when black guys were into rap crap and B-Boy nonsense and impregnating Obama's white mother. And women were into bra burning feminism parades.

What the absolute HELL are you on about? Shut up, please.

SSolomon: Its a commercial to sell product. Nothing less, nothing more. Star Wars is never going back to what it was in the 70's and 80's. It was a product of its time. Honestly, its quite disgusting to watch people drool over this carefully designed marketing machine.
Seems fitting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1pn4bTAQWA

And their reaction video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2fV7DqdfI8

Will see the movie at some point. Just not in a hurry to do so.

Let's just ignore that shitbiscuit, shall we? It's obvious he's either trolling, or completely deranged.
I was just watching the new French and German trailers and it's just struck me that the specifics of the two languages and the original Star Wars dubbing may betray something about Kylo Ren's actual relationship to Darth Vader. Probably pissing in the wind here, but hear me out:

In the German, he says "Nichts wird uns im Wege stehen. Ich werde beenden, was du begonnen hast." Content-wise there's little to differentiate between the German and English - "Nothing will get in our way. I will finish what you started".

Thing is, the German dubs of Star Wars have always used the antiquated form "Ihr" as the polite form (gives it a sense of medievalness), and it's always been the form that Jedi and Sith have referred to their masters as. "Du" has generally been reserved for very, very close friends at the same level - even in the final battle in Episode 3, Anakin said "Das ist das Ende für Euch, mein Meister." (Exception: Luke uses the modern formal form "Sie" with Obi-Wan for some unexplained reason - he used "du" with everyone except Obi-Wan, probably to convey his general lack of respect for authority).

Either way, with Kylo Ren using the familiar form "du", he may have some unusually close bond with Darth Vader, lending credence to the theories that he may actually be Luke.

Of course, dubs can change from trailer to final movie, and it may be deliberate misdirection, or the dubbing studio may yet not know the rest of the story. This is certainly possible given that the French version uses the polite form "vous".

Just throwing that out there.

While i don't agree with rest of the post - it sure surprised me when Disney threw up who would be the main cast members. Count me as one who is a little bit disappointed. Have to wonder why Disney went this route (was pretty unhappy when Disney bought Lucasfilms as well_

Someone needs to make a tort filter which automatically removes every post of his from view on the forum, what I find especially absurd is when other people go off on a 4 page irrelevant discussion based on his throwaway flame bait feces.

I don't think it's fair to say that it's irrelevant, not when JJ Abrams and other members of the cast and crew have commented on the issue. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to completely disregard something as non-existent or irrelevant just because you see it a different way is a bit off the mark.

Go back to the original Star Wars. Vietnam was still fresh in everyone's mind, and Lucas himself has said that he got inspiration from the 'plucky low-tech rebels vs the super machine-like empire' concept. The huge empire of America invading the low-tech Vietnamese was part of the influence. The fascist looking uniforms of the imperials, the concepts of eastern mysticism, battles of morality and human duality, all of these things fed into the background of Star Wars. Does that mean those things are irrelevant just because people want to just turn their brain off and enjoy a silly space fantasy film? Get the picture?

Some people, for better or worse, take things deeper than they perhaps should. But many are sensing a heavy handed approach at social changes and/or conditioning, and they want to talk about it, fight over it, or maybe even just mock it. This is after all the internet, THE place for such things.

So ignoring the fact that you're agreeing with a Nazi troll, why would you be disappointed that the lead characters are a black guy and a woman? Or do you mean that you're disappointed that it's not Luke, Leia and Han at the centre of things?

What the fuck has anything to do with Vietnam? What in the purple fuck has any of that to do with a stupid troll, who does nothing but make nonsensicall, sexist and racist comments about anything he can? He's not making some deep analysis of anything, he's just being a douche.

I'm actually in a favour of a blanket forum ban for him. Not only is he a known troll, with discussions regularly being brought OT, his bullshit has the potential to bring legal trouble upon GOG may be held responsible for his comments if they fail to actively moderate them.

Personally, I just wish the vile little prick would follow his role model's example, disappear off down into a bunker and shoot himself in the head. But that's just me.

I disliked the way they have obviously put up the cast. My main beef is with a strong female lead. Not my choice. Not for this franchise (and pls dont put words into my mouth - i can have an opinion without being accused of agreeing with a troll ok?) . SURE would have been great to have the old cast as central - i had expected it as would have a lot of old timer fans of the series. Just seems to me Disney is trying to make it appeal to broader & younger audiences
