Emob78: Demographics. It's a fine art to the sales department. Every time a woman, a man, a minority, a child, anyone shows up in a film or tv series, much thought has gone into the hows and whys of that character. Action figures, Nielsen ratings, video games, posters, shirts, bathtub toys, it's a well oiled machine. And with a monolithic company like Disney, NOTHING happens by accident.

Breja: And all that, all of which I am well aware of by the way, does not answer my question. Why should I care? How does that matter to me? He is not an established character they have recast with a black actor. He is a new character, who happens to be black. Why should I care?
In a perfect world you shouldn't. As far stereotypes go in real life, we're just talking about skin tone. But in terms of marketing and cultural saturation, it matters quite a bit to the bean counters.

Hey, I had no problem at all with Lando. He was a cool dude. He was like the black, slightly more sleazy version of Han Solo. He even got some nookie time with Leia. Cool deal. But social conditioning has gotten a lot more overt and direct in the last few years, especially with changing cultural beliefs. So be ok with it... take it or reject it, either way. Just don't deny it. Remember that when Disney remakes a classic, and replaces the white male or female with a handicapped gay Latino, just know that it's for a reason.
Guys it's just a dramatic eye catcher clip to get our attention for the rest of the clips.

HiPhish: No, I meant Lando Calrissian.
Ooooh, by Empire you meant The Empire Strikes Back, not a main character belonging to the Empire, eh? :P
I find it interesting that for the most part Star Trek fans were grateful for the series getting a revival, but Star Wars fans just act like complete cunts. Is there a difference in fans that make the reactions so over the top?

Yes. Just look at the difference in demographics. Very easy to start an inflamed debate with that question.

You should have seen the Trek blogs back when Abrams-Trek first came out. Nuclear heat, especially from fans of the original show. Time solves a lot. The SW prequels aren't all that different. Or Doctor Who... or BattleStar Galactica... or Firefly... or Lord of the Rings... or many others. The internet is made of webs... and cunts. It's an interesting combination.

I was on them but they were not THIS bad as hilarious as they were haha.

I'm a fan of Star Trek (all of it, starting with TOS) much more than Star Wars, and belive you me, the hate against the new Trek movies was insane. Even years after the first one people were still writing whole insane article about how Uhura ordering a drink is an outrage. I have never seen such levels of hate and insults as I've seen then, and funny enough the Polish star trek fandom seemed to be even worse than the rest.

So please, lets not call a simple critique of what I consider a disappointing trailer "being a complete cunt". Let's keep things in perspective.

Also, Star Wars fans have every reason to sceptical and cynical as hell after the prequels.

LOL. Well, then you know. It wasn't until JJ-Trek that I discovered that Captain Kirk was second only to Jesus Christ in many people's minds. Oh, and Spock hooking up with Uhura? That went over well with fans.

The Uhura one, I never saw too much hate for that. But saying that... alot of the complaints I saw about startrek weren't quite as pathetic as OMG A BLACK STORMTROOPER... BAN THE MOVIE!!! That was reserved when they announced Khan! lol

HiPhish: I love how the very first Storm Trooper ever we see without helmet is a black guy. It's like Disney is screaming "look at us, we're not racist, we have black friends too you know".
Spaceballs was decades ahead

Touche. That is a pretty stupid phrase. :P It ranks right up there with "It goes without saying" and "Isn't it though?" XD Cut me some slack, I'm still in recovery. :D

A Star Wars marathon will help. :)

Elmofongo: HAH even then that lightsaber in the trailer is nothing compared to this:

The teaser (and the Sith's lightsaber) did not go unnoticed here as well.
