Breja: Once again- The Dark Knight teaser- no footage, just some dialog, "teases" a lot of the story, the tone, and acting.
And the Star Wars teaser teases a lot of the new old look of Star Wars. Something that's important to lots of fans of the original trilogy. Breja: And it's memorable enough to come to mind easily eight years later. This? Over a minute of footage and it teases... bulky speeders?
Yes. Bulky speeders. You can repeat that all you want. Sorry if you still didn't get that I meant this as a symbol for the old Star Wars look that was completely missing in the prequels. I thought I made this abundantely clear by now... Breja: Let's face it- if this was good, properly awesome for a Star Wars movie, you would not have to try to defend it with the "it's just a teaser" defense.
Let's face it: the teaser does exactly what it probably was made for. It showed us that the new films are going into the direction of the original trilogy and not into the direction of the horrible prequels. It's not meant to be "Oh my god, I WANTZ THIS NAO!!!!", It's meant to say "Back to Star Wars. No more Jar Jar." That's the message of the teaser. We'll get Star Wars and not a Disney film. The teaser is perfect. Don't set your hopes too high on the original cast. They won't have the leading roles ;)

HiPhish: I love how the very first Storm Trooper ever we see without helmet is a black guy. It's like Disney is screaming "look at us, we're not racist, we have black friends too you know".
Sadly very true. Disney seems a little too eager to replace traditional white characters in their films with women and minorities. Now that they own SW, they're doing it there, too. It's no different than when rich white bankers donate to charities or inner city youth clubs. It's just the same old PR in a new time. 50 years ago and Disney would have loved to have KKK day at Disneyland, now they've got Mickey doing rap videos and throwing down with the hip-hop mastas'. It's still the same song and dance. But people buy the urban market shit just as much as they would have loved the Klan Kristmas Special back in the 40s or 50s. Gullibility doesn't require a skin tone. Condescending? Yes. Look up the word in a dictionary and you'll see a picture of Mickey Mouse wearing gold chains and standing there with his arms folded in a rapper's pose. And standing next to him is Walt Disney... laughing at you.

I don't get it, how did you come to that conclusion? All I saw was a few very short clips. No real information regarding the movie except it has a black guy, stormtroopers, a chick on a speeder and a bad guy. Where do you get your information?!

To be fair, Mickey Mouse is black, he's just wearing white make up and gloves. So he's a whiteface.
Come on, he is literally the very first thing we see in the trailer. I'm not complaining about a black storm trooper, it doesn't really matter. Empire had a black main character and he was cool, but he was not shoved right into our faces to proved how "progressive" (oh that word) George Lucas was. He was just a cool guy who happened to be black. Here it is the other way around, it's like they went for a black guy first and then added the character to it.

How would you know? Have you seen the movie? It was a fucking trailer, there was nothing about him shown at all.Breja: Or, you know, it just happens to be a black guy. Who cares? There are many reasons this teaser sucks, but that is not one of them. It bothers me the guy looks like a lost cosplayer in that shot, but why would it bother me he is black? Why would that matter at all?

What information? It's just how the stuff you listed looks to me. And you can actually see some dark woods in the trailer. Are you referring to James Earl Jones as Darth Vader who turned out to be several people, most of them white? Especially the one you actually see once they take the mask off?

Where do you get that from? I mean, I really hate do defend anything about this trailer, but this is such a non issue. It's just a scared guy, he happens to be black. They are trying the shove the "scared" in our face, to make us feel as if something really bad is going down, not the "he's black".

Demographics. It's a fine art to the sales department. Every time a woman, a man, a minority, a child, anyone shows up in a film or tv series, much thought has gone into the hows and whys of that character. Action figures, Nielsen ratings, video games, posters, shirts, bathtub toys, it's a well oiled machine. And with a monolithic company like Disney, NOTHING happens by accident. Red Letter Media's prequel review has a good section covering this 'urban market' stuff, especially in regards to SW. Says the same thing I just did, only... funnier and with less TL;DR.

That is exactly my point. Why was he literally he first thing we see? It makes no sense from a technical point of view. Wouldn't it have been better to open with something closer to the original trilogy like the Millennium Falcon or the crammed Storm Troopers?
No, I meant Lando Calrissian.

Can't say I give a hoot who they show first. It's a teaser trailer.
