sasuke12: Star Trek Discovery was absolute propaganda filled garbage.

Either way Picard will be the last star trek movie I will consume just like Avengers Endgame was the last marvel superhero movie I saw.

I am just tired of Hollywood making remakes, reboots, nostalgia movies and cliched superhero movies.
1. Just like the new Twilight Zone is as well(mostly leftist leaning).

2. Picard is a series, actually(afaik).

3. Eh, I like them if they are GOOD and not just blatant cash grabs.

That's 'right' speak for "Tolerant' right?

Breja: Probably because Brent Spiner is still, you know, alive and actually there.

Though to be honest I thought Tarkin looked pretty damn good. It wass Leia that they failed with.
Tarkin looked very good especially when you consider that they didn't have a scan of the actors face. The problem was when he spoke. The skin around his mouth/lips moved unnaturally.

On topic: They seem to continue the canon, sometime after Nemesis, which I'm fine with, but what I'm afraid of is that the original cast might just make some glorified cameos and then be discarded. Like Picard needs help from Riker or Troi to sneak somewhere and that's the last we see of them.

Also I hope they don't pull a typical Indiana Johns/Star Wars ,where they try to launch a new story with new characters, and the Picard series ends up being just an excuse to make it so. ;)

You know, when you think about it, holodeck "prostitution" would probably be a pretty popular thing in the Trek-verse. Find that girl you really liked, get the computer to build an AI personality of her like they did in that TNG episode (was it the Riker courtcase one?), and then boom fun.

No, not tolerant or PC perse, but the new series is doing more stuff like taking current IRL events or things supposedly done by a certain side with a certain "orange man" and using them to make stories to push propaganda....like the "cleverly disguised" pro-mass immigration/pro-illegal immigrant tolerance episode, for starters.

To be fair, the game Elite Force 2 did this with new characters(to the ST universe) added to the enterprise for the game itself.....and it was done pretty decently imo.

If they did it IRL with today's PC mindset some woman/male feminist would likely complain it harmed women somehow or made them all look disposable/like harlots, even if it harmed no one, and they'd call for it to be banned or made an offense.

That aside, one also must consider/wonder why no one on ST ever became a "holodeck neet" and never wanted to leave it(or more so than the series shows). It's basically a shut-in's dream world(and I should know as I am a partial shut-in).

I'm cautiously excited. But... After seeing what they did with STD, I'm not optimistic that they won't give this the same "royal treatment" level of politics & idiocy. Any Abrahams-on (who did not understand ST) ST has been a hot mess. I'm also not liking the serialized look of it. I'll probably give it a try as I'm a huge TNG fan, but if it annoys me, I'll just go back to The Orville.

The thing is, Star Trek world (or at least Federation) had a very strong anti-PC mindset. As for "shut-in's dream world", you probably should (re)watch Hollow Pursuits episode - it's exactly about that issue..
I'm curiously optimistic, but I'm not going to see it, at least nought though "valid channels". CBS is only shooting themselves in the foot and this isn't the first time, either.

Crosmando: I much prefered DS9 because it actually had a story arc with reappearing characters with the Dominion War.
avatar
phaolo: I enjoyed DS9, but if felt like the authors were writing the story on the go, with some events going nowhere or being reset with some tricks. Also, many resolutions were extremely naive.
And season 7 was terrible.. there were a bunch of fillers with songs (WTF), the war conclusion was a bit anticlimactic, Dukat's character was ruined, and the prophet's story ending felt a bit rushed and unappealing.
At least DS9 had a running storyline, what did TNG have except dozens of unconnected episodes?
Edit: nvm I must stay way from this thread

How was it anti-PC? They treated most races(barring the ones who warred with them) fairly for the most part, they allowed minorities/women on their crews in near equal numbers(even in the oldest series), etc.

I will look it up, thanks for the recommendation.

TNG had ongoing subplots like data becoming "human" over time, troi's relationships, etc as for romance.....and several conflicts/groups being fought or dealt with in civil ways for the non-romance stuff.

Also of course they were going to see random stuff....they were exploring uncharted space/etc iirc.

I didn't want to be excited about the trailer. But I watched it and I kind of am excited. I have been so disappointed in almost everything on TV and in the movies that I have a hard time with getting interested in something. But this did not seem to get me. I hope it's good.

Yes, but because I'm passionate about the subject I keep writing these long responses, only to realise, just before posting, that what I'm responding to is so utterly ridiculous that it's not worth getting into any sort of debate with the person who wrote it. And frankly, while I have to respect everyone's right to their opinion, it just makes me kind of sad to see people hating on the shows I love and hold in such high esteem. Especially today, when finding a good TV show is like looking for an atom-sized needle in a haystack the size of Alaska.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming Trek was ever flawless, and it can be good nerdy fun to point those out, but whatever flaws it might have had it's still some of the best TV ever made, and to see it described as "soap opera" or "mindless action" or the claims that having unconnected episodes somehow by definition is a bad thing... it's just tiresome and sucks the joy out of me.

Who said that any of the TV Shows were "mindless action"?

1. I like long responses so at least you'd have one guy ready to read them.

1.b. Some will not like what one likes and vie versa.....this is how life is with differing opinions and POVs.....this does not mean one shouldn't share what one believe and maybe connect with kindred spirits in such topics/threads. :)

2. I learned long ago to be able to(mostly) spot when people are being truly mean or just being critical on something and/or joking around......it makes life a lot more fun & enjoyable, imo.

That said, feel free to add in and see if someone agrees...and if they disagree it ain't the end of the world, right? :)

Someone did before this post/above I believe.
