To sober up after I watch this new one I'm gonna buy the TNG movie collection and watch the hell out of it.

Edit: its not that I think the actors or actresses are bad, it that the writing is bad.
Its like the recent Bond films; great acting resources but forgettable writing.

Edit 2: to be honest I'm more interested in the new Independence Day movie, which I never thought I'd say.

mmm kind of neutral on that. seems they're just using it as a vehicle for more blockbuster action whatever and there's less and less Star Trek each time. I was kind of hoping for Romulans this time around. Are these Romulans? not all that excited.

still was a pretty good trailer. there have been a ton of good trailers. sucks that batman v superman had kind of a weaker one.

Uhm... the 2009 one was about Romulans. And the one before that. I think there's been enough of them for now.

If anything, I think they should have gone with the Borg. I mean, if there is anything that the new, alternate timeline is good for, it's giving us something that we'd never get to see otherwise- Kirk and the original crew vs the Borg.

You're more interested in a fan-made trailer for a movie that isn't real? That's harsh, dude.

Well I for myself find the Craig Bonds quite refreshing "do i look like i give a damn" ;-)
its finally a Bond who is more human - admitted I havent seen the new one yet

But this Star Trek Trailer is a different story, dark elves in Star Trek?
Seems their alternate reality are quite *ahem* alternated now...

I think Casino Royale is fantastic, but it's been a downward spiral from there. And Spectre is rock bottom. It isn't even happening in the same universe as CR, not by a longshot. It's all back to the old silly stuff. Kind of like what Batman & Robin was to Burton's first Batman movie.
I still haven't seen the 2nd one but I keep hearing it was ruined by the addition of Khan which I would think would be really cool.

I wouldn't say it's ruined, in fact I'm in the minority, and I think they used the references to Wrath of Khan quite cleverly to work well with Kirk and Spock's character arcs. The problem is that Cumberbatch, though a good actor, was just badly miscast.

Well I've seen the original ST episode with Khan (played obviously by a much younger Ricardo) and it does seem strange that they would detach so far from that character while asking everyone else to adapt to the look and mannerisms of their characters in the original show.
I'm not sure if i see the point... Star Trek movies that i've seen have always been a little off, and the Enterprise TV series felt too aloof to me, or what 6 episodes i watched of the first season...

I think it's even been adressed in a sequel comic, where it's explained that his look was surgically altered, but I have not read that one yet.

Sidenote: the tie-in comic books to the new Trek movies heave been surprisingly good, especially Countdown, the prequel to the 2009 movie. In fact, it's the only such tie-in I can think of, where it really add to the movie and makes watching it much more enjoyable. It actually could have made for a kickass movie of it's own. And it was written by the much maligned duo of Orc & Kurtzman, so if you want to see that they actually can write good Star Trek, pick that up.

ok you're right on the first one, my bad. it's been a long time since I've seen it. nero was a Romulan. but I don't even remember the Romulans in the first one. nero was like a rogue. he was operating more or less alone.

the second one though wasn't about romulans at all. it was khan and klingons.

edit: I see what you meant now. yeah I don't associate the previous movies to the new ones because I completely prefer the previous Star Trek to the abrams Trek and don't equate them at all. I wouldn't mind seeing Abrams borg though.

I don't think Justin Lin is quite up for the challenge of combining a Indiana Jones style adventure film with Star Trek like JJ Abrams did pretty successfully with the first one. Even he couldn't quite follow it up without crushing the whole thing under Into Darkness.

Doesn't look much like star trek but it still looks like fun, I like the soundtrack selection.

On a side note I really liked Spectre in all of it's stylish bloated meandering.

Everything about this feels so entirely unlike Star Trek, for a few moments I thought this was some kind of hoax. I have watched every Star Trek movie in the theater since 1994, but I may have to skip "Star Trek: The Fast and the Furious". Looks like complete garbage.
Wow its a miracle! The New Timeline's Enterprise's weapons actually get a few shots off this time!

And I wish I was being sarcastic,
