Whether it's intentional or they just can't be arsed to put in the extra effort, they're once again neglecting people who prefer direct downloads. Good thing that we have a fully optional™ client as an alternative.

I also noticed they don't seem to bother with properly compressed installers any more. I know this varies on a case by case basis, but I remember in the past game downloads were usually much smaller than the final installation size, while for many recent releases there's hardly a difference in size ( see: Dragon's Dogma ). Could be just a coincidence, but as far as I know Galaxy, like Steam, directly downloads the full-sized files. Maybe it would hurt their Galaxy usage statistics, if people could download much smaller versions of the games directly via browser? :|

Neither client does that. Both support compression, so while you will be getting the expanded files, they are not downloaded uncompressed.
And remember, a game that uses good compression will not be compressed further. It does make updating the assets a pain, but it might be preferred for some reasons.

Are you sure? I remember complaints about Galaxy's downloads being much bigger than the direct browser download versions. But that was a while ago, so I don't know if they've changed the way it works. Maybe this too varies depending on the game.

Yes. Compressed downloads were added back in 1.1.6 or 1.1.7, which was sometime in 2016.

Can someone confirm, that there are still recent separate patch files available?
Since the last months all of my updated games were full downloads.

This is really getting annoying!
My internet speed isn't very fast, so it takes me hours to re-download these large games.

Latest games in the list:
SOMA (about 11GB)
Darksiders Warmastered Edition (about 22GB)

Another thing that bothers me with this complete version update is, that you cannot play a special version.
For example there was a major update to Vikings - Wolves of Midgard, adding a lot of new features.
The original version is now gone.
If you want to play the original release you have to keep both versions and this is using a lot more space than a separate patch file :(.

Side note, Grim Dawn got patched recently, but thanks to the fucked up notifications (or lack thereof) I missed the patch. The game has since been patched again, but gog have removed the previous patch, meaning if I DL'd the current patch, it wouldn't work because I'd be one patch behind.

So....that's another full DL for Grim Dawn.
Well, you can add SOMA to the list, again.
Not only has it gained a full re-DL "patch" but the fucking thing has even gone back from 1.10 to 1.109.

Seriously gog, get yer fucking act together!!
