Yeagersmash: I am trying to get some mods installed for System Shock 2 on Mac. The problem I am encountering is that when I run the SS2Tool using Wine, it says that I "need Windows Vista or later" and won't install the tool... This is using the latest versions of both Wine and the Tool. Would someone please help me get the tool installed on mac? Thanks for any and all help!
rampancy: First, I'm going to make two assumptions in writing this:
1) You're working with GOG's official Mac version (as opposed to the Windows version in your own WINE wrapper)
2) You have a working knowledge of how to use "Show Package Contents..." to delve into the inner contents of Mac .app files, and you know how to interpret folder paths in OS X.
To answer your question, I just reinstalled SS2 on my Mac and installed the latest version of
SS2 Tool. Here's what I did:
a) Right-click/Control-Left click on System Shock 2, and navigate to this folder path:
/Contents/Resources/game/System Shock 2
b) Right-click/Control-Left click on the System Shock 2 app here, and navigate to this folder path:
/drive_c/GOG Games/System Shock 2
Place your downloaded file for SS2 Tool here.
c) Go back to the root level of the second System Shock 2 app. You should see an app called "Wineskin" here. Launch it. Now, go to Advanced > Tools > Config Utility (wincfg).
A window called "Wine configuration" should pop up. Under the Applications tab, change "Windows Version" to Windows 7. Click Apply and then Okay.
d) Close the window. Go to the Configuration tab. Under Windows EXE, paste this path:
/GOG Games/System Shock 2/SS2Tool-v.6.1.0.8.exe (NB: You may need to change this to match the filename of whatever version of SS2 Tool you have.)
Then click on Test Run. The SS2 Tool installer and online updater will launch. Make sure you also allow it to install the Visual C++ 2008 Libraries. Be patient, as the installer will take some time, especially for when it downloads its required files.
e) After the installer is finished, change the path name under Configuration > Windows EXE to:
/GOG Games/System Shock 2/ss2bmm.exe
This will launch the Blue Mod Manager when you launch your game normally in the Finder, allowing you to manage mods and launch the game.
Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, I can post screenshots of each step.
Hey man followed all your instructions and it went all well up until I had to change the directory to /GOG Games/System Shock 2/ss2bmm.exe , it doesn't launch. When I try to open it it just closes itself after a couple of seconds. I changed it back to /GOG Games/System Shock 2/SS2Tool-v.6.1.0.8.exe but it just makes me install it all again. Any ideas?
