Tarnicus: A few natural stimulants in order of potency(disclaimer: legality differs from country to country)
Coca leaf
Khat
Ephedra sinica
Caffeine in its various forms(Guarana, coffee, tea - try making a cuppa with coffee leaves or Camilia species ie tea)
Sugar
The easiest way to power through sleep deprivation without the use of external stimulants is to activate the body's natural ones through exercise. Intense burst exercise works the best. Breathing and lymphatic fluid manipulation are also great for a wake up :)
True, true! Coca leaf

I'm handling the sleep deprivation this way (bearing in mind that at the moment, I'm fighting a headache from last week that my be caused by repeated too-little-sleep-per-night and some dehyration). I look at the games and the fact that I have other things to do in life. Then when I miss a game, no matter how interested I am in it, I just remember that I might have never gotten around to playing it anyway. :) That's not "sour grapes." Sour grapes would be saying that the game you missed it a bad game.
What I'm getting at is that if we miss a great deal on a good ol' game, we don't freak out. :) Sure, I'll keep an eye on the deals while I'm not at the gym (exercise can help the headaches and I'm staying hydrated). But since I can't afford to stay up all night with work tomorrow, so what. :)
Enjoy the fun of the annual Insomnia event, but don't hurt yourselves. This isn't the meaning of our lives.
....
I am SOOOOOO Tempted to try staying up and then going to work tomorrow.....Ugh, but I have to drive a good part of the day. :(

I'm terrified to go to bed to sleep because I might miss Sam & Max! Curse the shackles of point and click adventure games!

Garran: I find that it depends a great deal on the game. For example, Master of Magic and Master of Orion 1 look better than most of the RPGs and action games of the same era, even though they're the same on a technical level. The way they're presented in MoM/MoO makes the resolution less of an issue and they're not struggling to create a 3D-space illusion.
Precisely! Master of Magic is one of those games I can easily go back to regardless of the era.Austrobogulator

MaxAuxen: That's something else that excites me! If I'm being totally honest, these sales are a godsend for me! Between GoG & HumbleBundle, it's the only way my financially-challenged butt can afford anything! xD
I'm so ridiculously behind on enjoying latest-gen games that I don't think I'll ever catch up! I'm only just playing KoTOR 1 & 2 for the first time!
For the love of all things sacred, whatever you do, stay away from any forums, wikis, fansites, anything at all that might possibly spoil KoTOR 1. I absolutely adore that game, and I truly regret that I can never play it again in innocence. You only get one shot at an unspoiled experience. Embrace it!I'm so ridiculously behind on enjoying latest-gen games that I don't think I'll ever catch up! I'm only just playing KoTOR 1 & 2 for the first time!

Deal :P Would you believe I still don't know how Bioshock: Infinite ends? I swear, the skills I've developed to help me dodge spoilers, sometimes I feel like Neo!

Dachenko11: When the service gets too busy or anything bugs out and the website, a Gogbear jumps out of the computer and mauls your face off. By that point you won't need to know.
OH! You guys are talking about the cute little Atlas dude. Ok. I haven't seen him anywhere other than the server overload message.
(I'm calling him cute only to goad you. :p )

Damn, I hope they get to Leisure Suit Larry 7 soon. That's the one remaining game here I want, & I woke up too late in Round 1 to miss it (just as the next gave, Lone Survivor went up), & went to bed apparently two games before it popped up in Round 2. If sleep has to get in the way again for the final round, I'm-a killing something.

LynetteC: I feel your pain! My husband saw me playing Ultima 4 on my 17" laptop with it's 2Gb NVidia graphics card and 8Gb RAM and thought I was insane! What people don't realise is that back in the day, without orchestral scores and fancy graphics, games had to have actual CONTENT. The thing is, my other half should get that as we used to play games like the original Bard's Tale on his Amstrad 464!
Yeah the instant gratification of "looks good" and "sounds good" (although voice acting can be one of the most horrid immersion gaming experiences for me given the poor quality of a lot of "acting") does not make a good game. That is what I love the most about old games - given the technical limitations, people(often a sole coder) poured their heart and soul into what they were making. No budgets, time constraints from marketing etc and just made games with tools available. Now the focus seems to be on developing the tools at the expense of narrative and gameplay. Ultima 4 was THE game that changed how I played and viewed games! Consequences for my actions? I was so used to killing and stealing in RPGs that this came as quite a shock to me lol
Neverfree: Great ideas! I may just have to start chugging tea and coffee for the time being :)
Got some Licorice tea that I've never tried before...
lol I stuffed up my list. I started with the intention of mentioning licorice/star anise/fennel (same chemical active ingredient) that is a better stimulant for many than caffeine. Got some Licorice tea that I've never tried before...
nice catch! <3
