SPvanG: Not sure, but we have all written +600 pages! Aren't we great? :-D
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Nope, we're two shy from 250 pages. ;-P
Real forum users see 250 :D

Stilton: Probably because its fun and a lot of people get a lot of pleasure out of it.

richmondody: And how is it fun exactly? What makes this better than something their old sales format where it would last for several days or the other format that GOG used where games were available for 1-3 hours and you could vote to increase or decrease the time?
The speed of games departing imparts a feeling of increased satisfaction, like a race you managed to win in order to obtain something you wanted. The hugely decreased prices increase the ability of people to purchase things not only for themselves, but for each other.
Take someone who has to work/go to school/whatever. They try to stay up for a certain game, but they can't. They start to feel down over that. But then, someone they don't even know steps in and gets it for them. Not only does it make the recipient feel better in feeling that someone cares for them and their situation enough to look out for them and spend money on them, the giver feels good in being able to do something good for another person.
Even with the slow-moving games, it makes for an environment that fosters communal bonding, even if it's something as silly as a bunch of people going in unison, "Dear gods, will this game EVER go away!?!?!" Also, it provides another opportunity for people to feel good about themselves via the act of doing something for others. Watch the people who take one for the team as it were, buying slow movers in an effort to make the process along for everyone.

Krostas: Since absolutely nobody of my Facebook buddies seems interested at all and I simply don't want to sit on that Carmageddon II key for several months like I did with the Dungeon Keeper Gold key, here are both of them for grabs:

Have fun whoever gets it first, I hope it's somebody who actually plays them. ;-)

foxworks: Cringe, I think Momo is circling! But kudos to you Krostas!
Well at least he made it a puzzle ;-p But yeah, MAHAYO!
avatar
richmondody: Yeah, but I still don't understand why this sales format should be made a regular thing which is why I'm asking.

truhlik77: For me is primarly about fun in insomniacs thread. The games are secondary. None other (as far as I know) sale made community to stick together as real insomniacs:). Of this scope I like it and hope that Fall round will return .
Fair enough. I still think it's a terrible format for a sale though.

The good thing with GOG codes is that at least you know who redeemed them.
high rated

Finally! I've been waiting all day for someone to pay me a compliment ;-P

Well first off, they aren't the OLD format of sales here, they are just a different sales format.

Speaking personally I have had a lot of fun during this sale spending more time in ths thread than I thought I would (before peeking in). the community spirit, fun, kind, generous and helpful people here make the sale an event, not just a random sale that happens to be going on somewhere.

And judging by the 620 pages of posts, I would say that a lot of people feel the same

I don't know if it's better than the time machine sale or just differently awesome, but there is something camaraderie-inducing about the Insomniac sale. Stockholm Syndrome, maybe, except we are all free to go away and ignore the whole thing if we wanted to. So, maybe closer to a Skinner Box. Anyway, it's fun and irregularly rewarding.

richmondody: Yeah, but I still don't understand why this sales format should be made a regular thing which is why I'm asking.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Because unlike you, other people enjoy it? For a good number of peeps here, it's as much (if not more) about the fun and camaraderie on the forum as about the sale itself.

The wishlist is a box with suggestions about things folks like to see on GOG, if you agree you vote, if you not then you don't.
Well, if the appeal is more about the forum rather than the sale, then I concede. That being said, this is still a really bad format for a sale and I wish they don't do it again.
can anybody post a updated list please ? :)
fell asleep and i want to see what i missed. :P

Those sales will continue to be there, just a lot of people like this format too.
Different strokes for different folks, you like it join in, if not wait for something else.
Hell there's a whole nother weekend sale going on right now.
Maybe that's more to your liking. ;)

IAmSinistar: C'mon people, you get SEVEN kingdoms. That's less than 25 cents for each one!
Well, lots of people are dying in Seven Kingdoms lately, I'm not that surprised that guys here are kinda reluctant to get involved...

CarrionCrow: I'll be pointblank honest with you. Offline? I'm about as introverted as it gets. Super awkward, don't talk much aside from trying my best to be polite and considerate (no giving people in retail shit because they might be overloaded with people to deal with, things like that) or ranting about whatever's driving me up a wall at that particular moment.
This is the ONLY place I've felt comfortable with actually talking to people. So it's totally worth it.
That is great to hear. I feel the same way, especially with how respectful and helpful everyone here is.
