Dumann: I see there are several customization's (patches?) by the community for Neverwinter Nights. Is this the same with Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate? If yes, which customization's/patches do you guys recommend for a new player? Or just play it 'bare' first?

odbo255: For NWN a must have is the modern client nwncx - it unleashes the power of modern graphics cards for the over a decade old game making it visually competitive with WoW. It also adds lots of visual effects not in the original client.

One last note, most prefer NWN over NWN2. The NWN community is still very much alive. The NWN2 community, not nearly as much.
Ooooh bummer - I've passed on NWN several times, holding out for NWN 2 because I've heard the campaign (or, more specifically, some of the expansion campaigns) were better - mistake? From a purely single player perspective, mind you - as I'm not sure what I'll dive into when it comes to mods / PW

And this is great to pick your brain whist holding you captive during Insomnia! ;)

LynetteC: It was the first bundle I bought after joining GOG to get the free version of Dungeon Keeper. My sole intention was to grab the freebie and never come back, but when I found all of the extra free games on my shelf including the most awesome Ultima IV, I decided to keep a bookmark and investigate the site a little more. My bank account has regretted it ever since! ;-) On the up side, I don't have to worry about being bored in my retirement! lol

Gnostic: Haha, my Bank account is beyond furious. I break the 200 barrier earlier this year (Remember that because it overtake my steam library) and at this promo I reach 294. I don't know if I will break the 300 barrier, but if I count the gift I buy in this promo, sure the 300 barrier is broken.

WOW! I only have 9 games in Steam including both Witchers that I've just downloaded onto my GOG shelf with all the related goodies. I have 90 games on my GOG shelf, 16 of which were free including the aforementioned Witchers (and one of which I've asked to be converted to a gift code). I do, however, have a box full of physical games that I bought before discovering GOG that have yet to be installed.

Having played both extensively a couple of notes:

1. NWN is graphically superiour to NWN2, especially after switching out for nwncx.
2. I prefer the UI/camera for NWN (most folks do)
3. The OC "Official Campaign" the first module that shipped with NWN is very weak. I recommend skipping it and playing other modules first.
4. The modules that come with NWN2 are fun, definitely better than the OC - but in my opinion not more fun than the other modules that come with NWN and certainly not better than the best community modules for NWN

Overall for me, NWN is 10/10. NWN2 is 8/10.

Dumann: Hehe me too, I even still have the original guide book. The CD has so many scratches that you can't even play it in a CD player anymore. I used to put the CD-rom into the CD player to listen to the bad ass music. Track 1 was data (white noise), but you could listen to track 2 until 7 if i remember correctly :)
I'll have to check that - mine was a budget re-release, so perhaps it wasn't possible. There was no soundtrack with the giveaway, so if the tracks are there, I may just make my own. :-)

Hmm interesting and a few more things for me to consider when it comes to grabbing one of these; thanks for the pointers!

And to all those who say "Why not just buy and play both?" I counter with "Do you KNOW what that entails when it comes to these??? We're not talking a modern day "long and involved" campaign of 8 hours damnit!"

i keep telling my friends about how amazing this community is. I keep telling them that not only is it because it's a bunch of friendly people who care about games that truly have flare but it seems that they seem to be a bunch of creative, fun and inspired people from around the globe.. told my friends i feel that it would be awesome if the world was this connected in real life so we can meet amazing and nice people from different countries rather than being the only one of our kind in each physical area that we live in :D
