Dumann: To kill the time, I've got a quick question for you guys: A while back I bought a bundle with a lot of the RPG classics like Baldur's Gate, Forgotten Realms Demon Stone, D&D Dragonshard, Temple of Elemental Evil, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment and Neverwinter Nights. When I've recovered from the insomnia I'm planning on catching up with those classics. Which would be the best to start with for somebody that missed out on these games in the past? (since he was too busy playing Bullfrog games) Or are they all extremely hard core with a steep learning curve and do you recommend another similar game first?

odbo255: If you start with Neverwinter Nights you may get sucked in so deep you never play the rest! BTW, I am a DM at a NWN persistent world (The World of Aenea): http://www.amethyst-dragon.com/nwn/index.php

Come over and give it a try when you are up and running.

Oh and the campaign modules that come with the game (especially the first one) are not that great. However, there is LOTS of excellent community content and persistent worlds to play with. And it has excellent tools to create your own modules.
Is this an open invite for all? I'll bookmark it when I do another playthrough, I've always wanted to try the community-based features of the game out.
Right, I'm actually off for some proper sleep :)

And much kudos to you guys for keeping an eye out for me :)

To start out with? NWN 2 is closest to modern RPGs which is both good and bad. Act 1 is rather slow, but Act 2 is fantastic, and 3 is quite fun. It also has 2 great expansions, Mask of The Betrayer is extremely good. IWD 2 is fun if you like more combat oriented, less options than NWN, but still quite a bit of difference in dialogue options. IWD 1 is probably the most combat oriented and runs on 2E rules which are a bit harder to grasp for modern players. A lot more unforgiving. NWN 1 is one of my absolute favorites, and again has a brilliant expansion in Hordes of the Underdark. Planescape is the most story oriented of all of the DnD games, which is rather awesome. However, it... you either love it or you hate it, there is no middle ground. BG 1 is mainly to set up for BG 2, personally I dislike BG 1 but a lot of people like it. I mainly dislike it because it frequently feels like your party talks amongst themselves but not with you, as in you cannot initiate dialogue with them, they deign to speak to you. I am just now starting ToEE, so far it is a lot of fun, but again more combat oriented than something like NWN or BG.

hoshisquid: Good morning/evening/whatever,

would anyone like to swap a giftcode for Hitman 2 against Little Big Adventure 2? I just fell asleep and missed the Hitman 2 offer.
Aww, should have know that earlier, could have bought you one. Missed LBA2 myself. But no. :(

I see there are several customization's (patches?) by the community for Neverwinter Nights. Is this the same with Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate? If yes, which customization's/patches do you guys recommend for a new player? Or just play it 'bare' first?

Oh how odd! In another thread I just mentioned this bundle tonight RE: Why I still hate myself for not joing GoG sooner and missing out on... ;)

I think all of those games were in the Fall Insomnia sale and as a bundle pack on GOG in the past.
S2 is cool and all but I'm thinking I may not make it through another big quantity niche game like Theme Park, at least not without a shower. Kinda figure I might go have a chat with a few more caffeine pills, maybe actually play a little bit of these games I bought. I'll see if I can't reappear in a while with a jump start, try to keep you all slightly less sane through whatever horrors GOG throws out.

And hopefully I'll smell better, too. We have appearances and reputation to maintain, we are not uncivilized ruffians and nogoodniks like in the official thread.

Absolutely, everyone is invited. The only "fee" to play is owning the game Neverwinter Nights, which you can get right here on gog.com!

The World of Aenea literally contains thousands of modifications and dozens of customized systems, classes, races, sub-races, deities, crafting, the ability to create your own epic level spells - I could go on and on. The deisgner/maintainer (The Amethyst Dragon) is a legend in the NWN community, having received about 20 hall of fame awards.

You'll do yourself a huge service to pay close attention to this article and check out the subforums here as well if you run into any difficulty. I also highly recommend playing the game at a lower resolution, 1280x720 max. You'll miss out on a lot of the detail and emotional connection if you play it at 1080p in my opinion.
Well, have fun guys! I'll check back when this is closer to being over with. I'm starting to ask myself if it's worth it for the couple games I'm waiting for XD
