StingingVelvet: Playing this now and it's only okay. It has a cool setting and ideas, and the combat is solid, but the dialogs are boring and there are almost zero choices to make. You seriously just ask lore questions and turn in quests, nothing else. Also most NPCs can't even be interacted with until you have a quest that involves them. Also also the areas are big in general, but very corridor heavy, with tunnels connecting big circles kind of like Risen 2, if you played that.
It's okay and I like these types of games enough to finish it, but I'd say it's kind of a letdown compared to the impressions I was reading on RPG forums.
Yes, I have to say I agree. I had played through a fair bit of the main island, and quite frankly it got boring. There is a lot, and I mean a lot of running back and forth. An example, one key character is on the third floor of a building beside a home, this means (as you talk to him a lot) teleporting, then running round, up three flights of stairs and through several rooms over and over.
The choices aren’t really much either.
Graphically it’s ok, and combat is pretty good, though the whole ranged combat from the bar menu is terrible. Skills are nothing more than +x to a stat, and equipment much the same.
Also, I really didn’t get any sense of point to it, no real story.
Anyways, I have now given up as am playing evil within 2 (great RE4 alike) and AC Odyssey instead. May one day go back and finish it. I would stick a 3-3.5 stars for the game, thought it was better in many ways to bound in flame, however less so in others. Your comparison with risen 2 is good, although I thought risen 2 much better a game, and ranged combat much better, perhaps risen 3 is closer, I found that open, empty and boring.
