This would have been the perfect moment for some new JRPG (series) ;)
So no new JRPGs for this week or month? That's quite disappointing. There's quite a few that are missing from GOG, i.e. the entire JRPG catalogue of Bandai Namco, Atlus, Square Enix, etc.
Yea I would like to get the numerous Wizardry type games. DRPG? DJRPG??

^THIS, right here, though there are a few I need to catch up on, I said my budget limit was met, now it's time for me to go over it! If there's anything I love more than CRPGs, it's JRPGs and vice versa!
Hmm .
A pity that none of them seem to have Mac or Linux versions.

It's not even disappointing, it's exactly what you'd expect. It's wishful thinking that we'd ever get Japanese games from those studios here. If it wasn't for Falcom, NISA, and XSeed, GOG would have pretty much nothing here in the way of JRPGs, or Japanese games in general. NISA and XSeed don't even release most of their games here either.

For literally the past year, on a regular basis, I've been reaching out to Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Koei Tecmo asking for some of their older games to be released on GOG, and while I always get generally positive responses back from Square Enix, I've just given up on requesting anything anymore.

There's plenty of Japanese games from Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Koei Tecmo, that never had Denuvo, or have had it removed, but they don't seem interested for whatever reason.

Square Enix for example would rather throw western release scraps to GOG customers with releases like Thief and Sleeping Dogs. More recently the good Tomb Raider Trilogy, along with TR 2013 which Square Enix themselves gave away for free at one point. I guess it's better than nothing, and I did request the TR's, but they don't seem to want Final Fantasy on GOG, or any of their Japanese games that are Denuvo free on GOG.

Koei Tecmo and Bandai Namco seem perfectly content just keeping everything on Steam and ignoring anything else.

GOG is likely never going to get any of these games, and if they do it most certainly won't ever be new releases, except for stuff from Falcom. GOG's lack of Japanese titles is their biggest fault. Their RPG selection is good, but it's top heavy as hell with CRPG's. I love them, but the CRPG burnout is real.

If you really want Japanese games you're gonna have to start buying on Steam, and that's what I'm doing again. I've been skipping a lot of big Steam games, to support stuff on GOG instead, but I'm tired of doing that. I don't care if they're DRM'd at this point, because I'd rather play the game. If I'm given the choice of the same game on either store I'll always choose GOG, but I'm not longer going to prioritize the store itself.

I also ask myself, if one of these stores were to fail and shut down do I think it would be Steam or GOG? It would be GOG, easily. Now I do have everything I bought here backed up, and I like having that option, but maintaining, managing and store personal backups is a hassle that costs time and money.

Anyways, this JRPG week is exactly what I expected. There's some great titles in this sale, and I highly recommend people pick up all the Falcom games, but there's nothing for me here and anyone else who owns most of it.

It's still a great JRPG week though, because Tales of Arise is coming out tomorrow on Steam, and I'm fortunate enough to be able to pre-order the Ultimate Edition of that. Wish Tales of Arise was coming out GOG, and I could have bought it here instead.
No Mary Skelter: Nightmares ?
They all look the same, can't tell what's dlc and what isn't
ENGAGING rpgs? Really couldn’t resist letting your puns spill over from the Star Trek thread? ;)
I notice that all of the Ys games excpet Ys VIII (and I think all of the other Falcom games as well; edit: but not Ys IX either) are on sale. Possible Ys VIII giveaway? NISA has enough games here and on the way that it might make sense for them to do that.

Good time for anyone who wants to start on the Trails games to pick them up now that Zero and Azure are confirmed for release (order is Trails in the Sky, Zero, Azure, Cold Steel). Personally, I recommend avoiding all DLC except the free Ys VIII HD texture pack unless you just want to give Falcom more money.

Oh Atlus, that company is a paradox, on one hand it brought a lot of their titles to western audience but on the other hand they're very controlling of their IPs it was ridiculous.

I appreciate you for reaching out to these companies but buying on Scheme anyway isn't exactly helpful. What incentive do the Japanese publishers have to ever bring games to GOG (or in DRM-free form anywhere, for that matter) if people are going to buy on Scheme anyway? I know that buying on Scheme gets you the game on an individual level but it also makes it even less likely others like me can get the game, who refuse to use Scheme. That's pretty lame.

And lest anyone point out that SOME Japanese-made games are part of the user-generated "DRM-free" list of Scheme games that can apparently run without the client, I will point out that some were previously on that list such as Final Fantasy IX and X until they were updated to include DRM.
