Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

ahctlucabbus: It's not the free games that's the issue in itself. Sure in part it keeps the gambling mentality going, but it's also the linearity of the sale with the "what's next?" which in effect forces people to waste way too many hours. How can you not see that as exploitative? It even has 'insomnia' in its title.
"Forces" people? No one's forcing you to stick around.

Judgement101: So, it seems like the freebie issue can be summed up as "How dare GoG give away free games that I didn't get! How dare they!" Seriously people, this sale is ABSURD, stop complaining about the freebies and just buy some 80% off games!
agree but a lot of those complaining don't seem do have bought anything, just hang around trying to get free games and have a fit when they don't. why guy even emitted this and even said he would pirate stuff he didn't win!!

maul_inc: Jack KEane becoming a Meme. "A heavily discounted game that noone wants" :D
Example of usage:
"Goddamnit. Book of Unwritten Tales is Jack Keaning us right now. Move along pls!!"
low rated

ahctlucabbus: I understand people that are pissed off. This sale is very exploitative.

To each their own. No need to go bash someone for giving their opinion. You don't need to defend GOG. They can take care of themselves.
I don't get all those who are gargling GOG's bollocks. I know in the US it's kind of normal to have a servile attitude towards corporations, but that wasn't the case in Europe, or so I thought.

GOG is a corporation that's doing quite well and they don't need anyone's speshul lub - they're big enough to take care of themselves.

YellowAries: Just for the fact how GOG handled giving away these free games I vow to NEVER buy another game from GOG ever again... seriously pissed off about this

And I purchased over 70 games from GOG
avatar
gscotti: I'm quite pissed, too, and I got 115 games from GOG. I think I gave this company enough of my money, I think I know where I'll get the other ones for free.
Good gravy, calm down, people. I have almost 260 games from GOG, but that's irrelevant. It's the luck of the draw, plain and simple, and it beats anything Steam has ever done. Maybe you'll get a free game, maybe you won't, but it's not worth getting upset about it and they can't give away every game to everyone or they'd be out of business.

They've certainly given out games before and will again. Some are first come, first serve (such as this promo and the recent Carmageddon promo, where they gave away 50,000 copies (http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1on3na/iama_developer_of_the_carmageddon_franchise_ama/)), some are just plain given out (see Ultima IV, even though it's a stellar game and already part of a for-sale bundle), and some are conditional (like the recent US Gov't furlough employee giveaway - http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/10/10/gog-com-offers-free-games-to-furloughed-federal-employees/). The point is, it's obvious they try to be fair, while still making it fun.

For a look at how much love GOG has spread, check out http://www.gog.com/mix/free_games_temporarily_free_games and then tell me how many other companies have done the same thing.

Edited for speling erurs. :)

Judgement101: And what principal is that? It seems that your principal in all of this is just "I bought 70 games and didn't get a freebie". Newsflash: There are people with over 100 games from GoG, myself included, who didn't get a freebie.
avatar
YellowAries: No moron, the principal is how GOG executed the freebies for this event.. and the fact people are essentially cheating to obtain them.

* I give up trying to explain this shit*
I was going to insult you but I'm keeping cool. Look, the principle is a friendly competition. Not everyone is cheating, and there's a lot of people around here in the thread who have been getting the freebies by clicking, same as everyone. This is also a first-time for GOG, so in many ways it's delusional to expect for them to account for the impossible totality that is the varying connections and setups around the entire world. Your expectations from a videogame company are simply delusional, and the way you react to this is childish, to say the least. You mix principle with execution, which I'm going to pass over for now in order to say that you could have phrased it, like others already have, in a much more participatory manner. Someone suggested allocating a time-frame for freebies, or having to go through the checkout page. That's all fine, and GOG can consider it. Throwing a tantrum and saying you've bought lots and now are not buying anything else ever because of some minor occurrance in a sale is not only unnecessary but idiotic, because nothing is resolved for you or anyone else.

1000 copies came and went in a flash.
