Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

DubConqueror: I'm too much on this topic and to little on the frontpage. Baldur's Gate 2 zipped by? How many copies, how fast? Tell me!

Need to redo my poem:

Night of love with my girlfriend

She hoped for a Jack Keane

I did a Baldur's Gate.
avatar
Coelocanth: Do you need a copy of BG2?
Nope, I'm a long time fan, have the GOG edition since it came out here, it just would have been an awesome sight for the eyes, seeing so many other people buying that wonderful game
avatar
jjsimp: So how long did Jack Keane 2 take to finish last night. I finally gave up a little after midnight here on the east coast of USA (GMT-5).
Roughly 4 hours and 40-50 minutes. It ended around 2:20AM EST

Then came back as a freebie to haunt us half an hour later.
avatar
hamidrj: I have a question:

Has anyone from the US been able to win a free game?
Yes. I got one yesterday evening after I got home from work at about 6pm Pacific time, don't know if that helped or not.
Hmm seems this might take a while.
Repeats do NOT follow that reddit list exactly

Daliz: Please guys, say that I haven't missed NWN diamond?
avatar
gbaz69: It only came up that once, that first time, NO REPEATS. AT least I think so. Cause I've been hear FOREVER waiting for it.
I'm pretty sure I saw it twice yesterday...

wolfsite: I wouldn't say it's unfair, however you can be in a disadvantage if you don't have a decent internet connection or a sluggish computer.
avatar
YellowAries: I have a 75 mb down and 35 up connection and an 8 core processor so I doubt it's me
There are literally thousands of people clicking on these same buttons the nanosecond they appear. There are usually only 10 or so copies. I do not know anything about what algorithms they used to select in the case of 'ties' but I do not see a conspiracy theory being a good explanation or Gog being malicious either.

I have close to 150 gog games and I do not feel cheated by them having a sale like this.

YaTEdiGo: It´s not the best way frankly speaking. But come on, it´s not such a big deal, prizes are great. I can´t complain, as is virtually impossible I will get any game for free this night, I am in Asia, using a VPN in a crappy hotel -_-
avatar
YellowAries: It's not the fact I am not getting a free game that's bothering me, it's the execution that GOG is using that's bothering me.
I need to recognize is a bit unfair, but honestly this website is great. And this idea is nice, just as you said is not the best way for the "free" games.

How long did the free copies last?
avatar
SciFiCat: Sixth time clicking on FREE game right the moment it appears and nothing, OK I'm done trying, seems only people with high speed internet access have a shot at it since by the time the browser updates it is too late

Here is a suggestion if you decide to repeat this promo in the future (which considering the success of this one is more than likely) Instead of making the sales tied to units sold, make it time based. Games with moderate discounts of 50% to 66% last 5 to 10 minutes. Games with 75% to 80% last form anything of 1 to 5 minutes and Free games last 10 to 30 seconds. That way you get to sell more and people have a chance to catch that game they want to buy as that timer counts down and actually gives people a realistic and fair chance to get a free game.

If anything that way you'll sell more, your clients get more and this measure will save yourselves from another fiasco of waiting 5 hours for people to buy Jack Keane 2 out of pity.
My internet's speed is around 4 mbits per second, and i've gotten 3 free games...

I'm just using a regular Chrome browser without any images turned off or anything.

mrking58: How many copies of Creed were there
avatar
Zera: 7.
I read 8 when I click, and of course I didnt arrived on time xDDD
avatar
bell02: it seems few people are clicking instant 24/7 1000cliks a sec. via script! ... i mean, the keys for the freebies are already gone when the game is showing up!? ...thats not normal!
avatar
Cavalary: Seeing as the script seems to update every 2 sec, there's a bit of delay till the text renders, and then there's your ping as well, it's extremely normal, in terms of probability I mean. Very normal not to even see that a game was free at all actually, since it doesn't last 2 seconds, so if there's a counter update right before the last unit of the previous one is sold, the next may well be after the one that follows the freebie starts. And there are thousands of people trying to jump at those things (sure, some using scripts too).

Edit: Well, that was an old message, woops. Forum skipping many pages back again after posting, thought it was new. Uh well.
the mystery have already solved! They using opera. and ...glitching / looking on the refresh etc etc :/ neverminde .. forget the freebies^^

Judgement101: And what principal is that? It seems that your principal in all of this is just "I bought 70 games and didn't get a freebie". Newsflash: There are people with over 100 games from GoG, myself included, who didn't get a freebie.
avatar
YellowAries: No moron, the principal is how GOG executed the freebies for this event.. and the fact people are essentially cheating to obtain them.

* I give up trying to explain this shit*
I got two free games without cheating. Your argument is invalid.

Daliz: Please guys, say that I haven't missed NWN diamond?
Et ole.

agree they are some who are cheating but a lot of people who haven't manged to get s clicking something. will say it again thousands of people are clicking so you have one chance in a thousand or more to get it
