Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Well, Nordic Games, this hardly serves as redemption for the Jack Keane 2-gate, but at least one of your games isn't doing that bad right now, albeit not doing particularly great as well.

Daliz: Please guys, say that I haven't missed NWN diamond?
It only came up that once, that first time, NO REPEATS. AT least I think so. Cause I've been hear FOREVER waiting for it.
If you joined GoG for free games then there is something wrong with you. I joined GoG for the DRM free stuff, so that when and if Steam fails I can still play a handful of great games. So far I got a few freebies, nothing from this sale, but honestly I couldn't care less. Atleast they trying something new, something different. I don't think it will be repeated in future seasonal sales but if they choose to do something like this now and then it is really awesome.
So how long did Jack Keane 2 take to finish last night. I finally gave up a little after midnight here on the east coast of USA (GMT-5).

spoonwhale: Oh. Since i got chains of satnav and I don't really want it :l

It'd be better if i could trade it or give it away to someone who wants it.

mm3n: The game should be good, give it a try!
The problem is that I have an internet with pretty bad DL speed and Chains is over 4 GB...

Other games like Baldurs Gate and Thief go before it in the DL queue.

You didn't.
Lords of Midnight next.... my pointing finger has never been as ready.

Coelocanth: Pointed out many times before but I'll try again. Limited to a couple dozen copies and literally multiple thousands of people trying for it at the same time. So your odds are thousands to one of getting the game. Is it really a surprise that you don't get one? Really?

YellowAries: Again, it's not the point, it's the principal.
And what principal is that? It seems that your principal in all of this is just "I bought 70 games and didn't get a freebie". Newsflash: There are people with over 100 games from GoG, myself included, who didn't get a freebie.
Kua, as I heard I missed BG 2. :/
avatar
Piranjade: So what? You didn't get a freebie. Just enjoy the wonderful sale and grab some discounted games.
I didn't get a freebie either but I bought Rogue Legacy and I'm pretty happy. :-)
avatar
YellowAries: So what? ... "what" is how GOG handled this, and the fact people are essentially cheating for the free games.. whatever, I don't care about it anymore because it's obviously not going to get me anywhere by talking about it. I can make my statement by standing by my decision not to buy anymore games from here.
as others have said thousands of people are clicking on free games, thats why its a matter a luck. its like the lottery!

Why not join gog for the free games? you get like 10-12 free just for signing up right?
And gog.com gives out free games often enough to keep us comming back at least.

DubConqueror: I'm too much on this topic and to little on the frontpage. Baldur's Gate 2 zipped by? How many copies, how fast? Tell me!

Need to redo my poem:

Night of love with my girlfriend

She hoped for a Jack Keane

I did a Baldur's Gate.
1000 copies in less than a minute. It was _really_ zippy.
Sixth time clicking on FREE game right the moment it appears and nothing, OK I'm done trying, seems only people with high speed internet access have a shot at it since by the time the browser updates it is too late

Here is a suggestion if you decide to repeat this promo in the future (which considering the success of this one is more than likely) Instead of making the sales tied to units sold, make it time based. Games with moderate discounts of 50% to 66% last 5 to 10 minutes. Games with 75% to 80% last form anything of 1 to 5 minutes and Free games last 10 to 30 seconds. That way you get to sell more and people have a chance to catch that game they want to buy as that timer counts down and actually gives people a realistic and fair chance to get a free game.

If anything that way you'll sell more, your clients get more and this measure will save yourselves from another fiasco of waiting 5 hours for people to buy Jack Keane 2 out of pity.

YellowAries: Again, it's not the point, it's the principal.
What principle? That there are free games available for anyone to try to get? What principle is involved here other than what appears to be a sense of entitlement? Just because there are free games offered doesn't mean you'll get one. So you decide to take your toys and go home? I don't see the principle involved here.

No moron, the principal is how GOG executed the freebies for this event.. and the fact people are essentially cheating to obtain them.

* I give up trying to explain this shit*
