Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

JakFox: Wow! Still going strong, huh? Can anyone tell me when Jack Keane 2 left the floor? It was last night (or about 11 hours ago).
It was there or 5 hours.
Thank you for all answers.
I think War Game look interesting. It on sale when I was sleeping. The first game I bought was Tropico 3.

Artificer: Well, I'm sorry you feel that way but the vast majority of people posting on this thread have been loving the sale, in spite of its issues so please leave the insults aside. Most of the people enjoying the sale are, in fact, "normal people" and not "13 year old impulse buying monkey children" as you suggest. I will avoid making any comparisons between your petulant tone and your own age but feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Fuma: Lovely that you enjoy it, but please tell me, how am I to take part if I have a job and life?
Yes, yes "insomnia!!!!!" but as far as promos go it's bollocks. Steam once did 4 hour sales and people were angry at that so all sales now are 24 hours or longer.
If I want a cheaper game I just need to stay in front of the GOG page and keep clicking like a monkey as fast as possible once a good game shows up? That's unreasonable and only people who do not value their time feel this promo is fun. It's annoying. It rewards bots. It's a brilliant marketing hype strategy, but for normal people who can check the page 1-2 times per hour it's just annoying that whoever has a macro bot gets the good deal.
as u said, it's marketing - just spend ur time in better ways if u feel like

hedwards: I'm out of here. I've tried 7 times, and have yet to find a case where it was even open for more than a couple seconds. That last one should have given me a copy, just for clicking while it was still up. It was down in less than half a second. Literally with my finger on the mouse button and my pointer on the button clicking immediately and the offer was gone before I had completed the click. Never even saw how many copies they were giving away. This definitely does not make me want to buy one of the games here.

All this cheating and the fact that there is apparently no limit to the number of free copies is really putting a damper on things. With a limit at least, it would eventually start to wear down the cheaters a bit.

tapeworm00: Once again, there are thousands of people clicking at the same time on this thing, which gives like 20 copies of a game. Repeat: thousands. It doesn't need cheaters, it just needs to register whoever clicked half a second quicker than you (which given the probabilities involved is, again, thousands of people more than unique snowflake you) for absolutely every game to go in a second. This might be too much loss of control for some, and completely unconceivable for others, but at least try to understand that there's more than 20 people watching this thing right now.
Well said. :)
I can't believe that Underworld still sells so strong. It has been on sale one billion times

Artificer: For anyone interested, it's definitely following this again:

http://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/1qjevg/gog_fall_insomnia_megathread_limited_quantity

Which means it's a looooong wait for SS2 and Don't Starve.

binn05: well, if it is following this list, will have a JK2 in 7 games from Ultima lol
well I hope that somebody at poland have common sense and after that almost 5hour fiasco JK2 got banned from this sale... after all gog loosing aswelll when JK2 blocking other users from throwing money into gogs pockets... on the other hand evil sadistic feeling from tormenting gamers all over the world with jack could be priceless if they are in to this at gog ... hope not

When the deal is gone before it even displays, that's a bit suspicious. I don't expect to win, but if I click during the quarter second that the deal is up, I should have at least some chance at getting it.

The fact that people are getting multiple copies, is something that's rather disturbing.

Essentially, you're right. And the freebies make it kinda worse.

Right around 2:20AM EST.
Has there been any official posting on the madness of the Jack Keane 2 travesty? I am dreading seeing it come up in rotation in the sales again.

hedwards: Should be, but it doesn't appear to be the case. I can't imagine that the Europeans are beating us out on that last purchase that consistently. I think apart from that first game I tried for, none of them have been up for more than a half second. That last one was up for milliseconds.
It is possible that the European servers are better distributed. One in the UK, one in Germany, one in Russia, using a better infrastructure for server communication than the US ones. That would be a case of akamai's servers being subpar though, not of a Polish server offering advantages.
On the other hand, Akamai is one of the well known CDN providers, so I'd like to think that they don't have troubles with their infrastructure.

P.S. The server locations are guesses, no idea where the servers actually are.

It may be possible but in the end the sale prices are really good also and if you do get a freebie then bonus..

Possible, but given the number of people participating it doesn't seem necessary to explain how the freebies go so fast.
