Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Artificer: Yeah, that is a bit of a bugger.

If people wouldn't game it (and they would), I'd like to be able to just be able to add a copy to the cart and pay all at once; the problem is that there are plenty of people who would just grab a copy of everything and then go through their cart deciding what they wanted to keep without the time limit.

tammerwhisk: Yeah, there's no simple solution. Something akin to steam wallet for GOG could work, but that could potentially be an utter nightmare to implement.
The best solution is a compromise where you don't have to pay it until the sale ends, but you're making a "promise to pay" by clicking the button, more or less.

Still, it creates several problems of its own.

Yes they should do a survey to see how they could improve this, this i marred by technical problems more so than the sale itself.

Seemed to have worked fine except they need the time limiter to force slow moving games off sale - JK2 really slowed the sale down too much(4-5 hours).Aside from the freebie issue and slow site early ....i dont see what needs to be improved aside maybe throw a few surprise games not offerred every now and then would be nice...

tammerwhisk: Though the free games have been a little disheartening (although I did get omerta free), my only real complaint is that each game is a separate transaction which multiple small transactions over a short period tends to trigger account security measures.

Mr_GeO: This is a pretty valid point (although my PayPal account was perfectly OK with series of few bucks transaction in matter of few minutes), but I bet if it will be allowed to "store" your purchases in your cart, we will be stomped flat by swarm of "heardsmen" who just greedy and blindly gather frikkin EVERYTHING and canceling 95% of it later.
It's really more a credit card problem.

You would do well to fear the power of VISA Fraud Protection. They're pretty hardcore.

my bank stopped my visa use once when they thought lots of small transaction purchases during a sale was suspicious so my card/account was suspended over a weekend...

tammerwhisk: If I used my CC instead of paypal I'd be dealing with a phone call or two this morning from the fraud department requiring me to confirm my account usage.
Hm, arent you allowed to have kinfd of "sub-account" where you can transfer like 50 bucks and use it for petty shopping with simplified security & authorization procedure?

The freebies are just there to create anticipation and keep people glued to their screens. They don't actually care about anyone getting a free game in this case =P

That is a bit of an understatement. I've been questioned over the phone by the fraud dept. for ordering a pizza.
31 left. Why is it mostly indies which slow things down?

lol damn thats really hardcore. I'm so glad I don't have VISA anymore which I dropped as soon as i dropped CHASE a couple years ago. Best decision ever ^_^ that and I found they were adding on extra fees and such after eating up my previous bank.

Yep used to happen to me all the time making Amazon purchases and whatnot.
I'll straight and easy shoot myself f if the next game isn't something I am waiting for or a freebie. Will leave a note who lead me to that state too.

GOG. I hate you. The sale style is too good and too maddening.

No hard feelings.
The promo that would make me not want to sleep has turned into a snoozer.

I think it would help things move along if, when a title was selling too slowly, that the discount would increase by 5% every ten minutes that none sold. Play with the numbers if those don't make sense, but it sounds good to me.
