Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

garrus74: Nope and nope - no D&D since Keano was finally defeated. "I have no mouth, but I must scream" is a blast if you're a fan of classic adventure games. What makes it rare is the mature sci-fi based story, which is not too common a game setting these days.

Madmurdock297: Cheers. Guess I'm sitting here reading Cyanide and Happiness until they come along then. -sigh-

I love classic adventure games. I read about I have no mouth and the concept sounds intriguing. Might have to get a hold of the book. Will grab the game as well if it appears in the offer again.

Thanks for the reply.
IHNMAIMS has already been on sale twice and was a vey fast seller. When I finished buying it the promo was already gone.
Not sure it they will have a third run.
Just poked the Real Texas business along at the cost of $3... Don't know if I'll agree with myself on that in the morning...wait, it IS morning.

Artificer: No worries. I'm probably a little lacking in my normal patience after being up all night.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way but the vast majority of people posting on this thread have been loving the sale, in spite of its issues so please leave the insults aside. Most of the people enjoying the sale are, in fact, "normal people" and not "13 year old impulse buying monkey children" as you suggest. I will avoid making any comparisons between your petulant tone and your own age but feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Ungunbu: actually i'm having fun even if (as i stated before) i agree with the bots part
I'm enjoying it too. It's something different. Jack Keane 2 may have been painfully slow to sell, but it was still a laugh on the forums. I agree that the free games are pointless. The people getting them probably dont even want them.

But as soon as you click buy and get to the checkout you can complete your transaction so I don't know what the fuss is about. It's given me some new games at a cheap price without having to wait until Christmas, so yeah. I don't mind it.

Artificer: On a side note, when you hit "Buy now" the system almost certainly reserves a copy long enough for your payment information to go through.
Yep I noticed that and tried to inform the last complainer of such.

Ungunbu: in which order r they repeating games? random?
Random, I think.

it's probably true. Anyway sometimes the payiment fails and u risk to somehow lose your chance to get the game
It's funny....I've been hanging out here for hours, and whether the activity has been methed-up Tasmanian devil spastic or dead as a frigging doornail slow, it's still been fun. I'd rather do this than sit there, go on Steam, buy something, have them tell me I can't access it when their system screws up. Hell, I'd rather see GOG kill Steam off, then get their numbers and run something like this. Think it's crazy now at some points? Make it a few million people all gunning for whatever they can't live without. It'd be completely awesome psychotic global lunacy.

Khaleesia87: I have a 100mbps connection and I stared at the opening page for hours and couldnt even see some free games coming! they were gone in...like....a quarter of a second! The few ones that I could actually see went away so fast that I couldnt even read the full name propely.
avatar
Ungunbu: exactly, imho besides the fact that thousands of people are trying to the them there is also some amount of hacking
Uh è pieno di italiani qua su GOG =D

Yeah well I gave up already...I am not gonna get any free game out of this promo but hopefully I will get the chance to buy a good game with a super discount before going to sleep!
i bet next game is gonna be one of the following:

Alpha Centauri $1.49
Psychonauts $2.49
King of Dragon Pass $1.49
Myst: Masterpiece Ed $1.49
Hotline Miami
Its been random for a while.Although now and then they have listed 3 in a row.
Stayed up most of today waiting for Don't Starve and Nexus to come around 2nd time but they yet to appear. sigh....

mkess: Don't you say? They have only one shelf in their virtual shop. The rest is back in the storage room.
avatar
rtcvb32: Well it would. They should have two events, going, or better yet have like 4 games you can get/buy with slots at once.
Call me crazy here, but while the point is to sell games, this promotion is more about doing something unique to get people talking and visiting the site constantly. It's called Marketing and it's working extremely well.

That sucks. Still, you never know. Could turn up again. :)

true
Though the free games have been a little disheartening (although I did get omerta free), my only real complaint is that each game is a separate transaction which multiple small transactions over a short period tends to trigger account security measures.
