Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

IDK what GOG was thinking. I bought Baldur's Gate 2 complete for $2 earlier. TWO dollars! They expect people to buy this PoS game for $12? This game needed an 80% sale tag, and even then, I would wait for the suckers to buy it.

Anyone buying this game for the soul purpose to further this sale is a saint, btw.

Edit: sole* purpose... Althought SOUL purpose seems right as well... hmmm

celt43: "Limited quantity deals so good you won't want to fall asleep"

Should read.. "Limited quantity deals so slow you will fall asleep"

LOL ;)
It is looking more and more ridiculous as time goes on. Twitter and other sites are having a good laugh at the disaster too. After the "lightning" sale is over someone should do a pie chart showing just how much time was JK2 time.

We're well over 5000 posts now too. Gosh.
Woke up in the middle of the night, and couldn't resist checking the status of the situation. I think rather then rewarding amnesiacs, GOG is going to reward early risers; they'll yawn, stretch, eat breakfast, and just as the Sun rises over the horizon, the hundredth person will make the leap and finish off the Jack Keane portion of this promo, which will flip over to reveal ... 500 copies of Omerta: City of Gangsters up for sale.

But for me, it's back to bed.
Don't worry just 3 hours to go.
The sale has been going for sixteen hours.

This game has taken four of it.

How many of the remaining eight hours in the "day" will it take to move on?
Interesting of the 655 games on GOG bestseller list, out of the bottom 50-60 worst selling games (excluding the freebies) only 2-3 are classics. The rest are indies. HmmmmmmmmJack Keane 2 is around 36/37th from bottom fwiw ;)

And with that game you've got AAA quality RPG with expansion that gives hundreds of hours of excellent classic gaming fun - then you have mods! Alternatively pay 6X more for the biggest cockblock in games sales history.

I'm going to make a coffee. I need something to keep me going during this siege.

Good morning, everyone:-) Went to bed at 22:00 (GMT+1), when the checkout counter was around 850 000... now it's half past seven and the checkout counter is only at 918 328. I've started new account two days ago and so far is empty, so no chance in participating in the sales, and after few unsuccessful attempts to get some freebies I just stopped caring...

I only hope this gimmick brings enough revenue to have normal sales again, with occasional free game for 48 hours or promo.

Then again, this year I've got so many free games - at least Torchlight, Flight of the Amazon Queen (finished summer 2012 - should we wait for the rest of free SCUMMVM games like Dreamweb or Soltys to appear here as well? I wouldn't mind), Starfighter, Duke Nukem 3D... not to mention Realms of Arkania 1,2 and Shadows over Riva from some testing and Carmageddon from Reddit... and also both Witchers...

BTW it would be a nice touch, if the Insomnia sales would end with some unlimited freebie... maybe the Jack Keanne:-P

I've been sitting here and waiting for Keane to go away. I haven't been able to get one game yet due to bad timing on my half and the website seizing when I tried to check-out. Nearly four hours and Keane is still up.

I've exhausted all the video in my YouTube sub box. I burned through a few levels in 'Castelvania: Lords of Shadow'. I've been a princess training to be a queen that got cut down in her prime in 'Long Live The Queen'. I even got desperate enough to play 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 2' for a hour or so.

Yet Keane still remains. He truly is a force of nature.

Fezred: I feel really sorry for those who jumped on the sale right before the Jack Keane 2 turd floated along and blocked the pipes. There were great old games (and new) coming thick and fast. Many were selling out so fast you couldn't waste time reaching for a credit card.

Anyone care to work out how many copies of NWN2 or Thief Gold would have sold in the same timeslot at their sales rates?
Well, NWN2 sold at a rate of 1400 in 1.5 minutes. So that's 56,000 copies per hour. Of course, it likely would not have sustained that rate for a great period of time, but oh yeah. That's why this is supposed to be a FLASH sale. *grumble mumble*

More entertaining:

For less than a copy of Jack Keane 2 (on sale!) you could buy:

Ultima VII $1.49
Master of Orion 1+2 $1.49
Heroes of Might and Magic III $2.49
Jade Empire $2.99
Chronicles of Riddick $2.99
-------
$11.45

Here's a list with prices. Feel free to make your own, Less than a Copy of Jack Keane 2 list!

Lmao! At least it has given us a good laugh ;D

;[
If you think of the speed they were cycling through before we must have missed out on hundreds of sales by now because of this. Perhaps a dozen freebies too that were scheduled or lined up to go in after this too. We'll never know now. :(
I went out to do blood donation when there were 33 copies of Jack Keane left.
I came back and there were only 7 copies sold.

Poor Keane.

My prediction, about 2 hours ago, was for it to take four hours. With 26 left to go at an average rate of 4.5 minutes per sale, we're on target for 2 more hours to finish.
