Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

howardc007: Excellent!

mrking58: Its because I am smart I want to pay half price

cjc7: OMG ! , This winter sale is going to break my bank account. Could not resist , ( I really tired , well kinda really tried to resist.)
Splinter Cell as Mystery Pick, and Longest Journey and got the three free Fallout series. Must stop , look away, don't click, ...oh well, just one more game... :)
ha ..ha..ha.. .

mrking58: You have bought more than me. My two mystery picks were duds (had them both)
Well, I can feel your pain, my first pick I also already had, I hope that before it's over you get lucky , really lucky, and get something really great. I was was blown away when I saw Splinter Cell pop up ! I wanted to try it for a long time, just from the looks of it reminds me of Deus Ex, ( one of my top all time favorites :) )) Well, wishing you much luck for your next pick.
LOL to see people returning to this thread out of nostalgia. The Winter sale doesn't have a real social hub like this sale did. : D
I'm still curious as to what figures TET was supposed to update on this thread

HaydenRead: Great to see this forum still going...

Sachys: You do all know that this is but one thread among thousands in a (now) five year running forum?
- just i see a lot of people posting similar in this thread right now, and yet few have ventured beyond the boundaries of this thread?!
Be nice to see some more of you out there! :)

Oh, and cheers, but did not redeem!

Edit: I've said "this thread" too many times! ON WITH THE SACRIFICES!
No... we want people to come to this thread and post here, so that this thread never dies... :-D

That being said, this is my first time back in almost a month (at least since before Thanksgiving week), and it warms my heart to see it still going!

Unfortunately, the Winter Sale just is not capturing the magic of the Insomnia sale (but to be honest, the Insomnia sale set the bar very very high).
Lol we can use this for winter sale discussion! :D
Still waiting for the stats for this crazy sale=).

And for those who missed the Fallout giveaway, 6JV8-2C2Z-J4N2-BXMK. If you are new to reedeming just use this link and add the code to redeem the games.

I suspect we are never going to get those, and I like others who participated would love to see the figures. I am thinking TET was just telling us that but it is not something that can be delivered upon, since it would be strategic business data to GOG competitors...

:-(

If that is what it is considered, I can understand it perfectly, and would have loved to have been at the internal presentation where the figures were disclosed.

pretty much took the words out of my mouth. no impulse buys, no adrenalin rush.......I actually feel bored.don't get me wrong I like this current sale, but would have preferred a insomnia type sale.I doubt the sales figures for this sale wouldnt compare if you estimated them over same period of time.
definitely nowhere near social element
One of the Blues said there would be another Insomnia sale, just not right away as they didn't want it to "wear out its welcome." Although for the life of me I can't recall if that was said on these forums or over on reddit.

And you gave mine form. :-) I could only think to express on a general level, but I think your last part captures what I could not put my finger on: the social element is... lacking. There are a ton of posts in the Winter Sale thread, and plenty of days left in the sale itself so there will be lots more posts forthcoming, but there just is something missing that makes the thread not seem as... ?endearing? as this one, where you check back almost as much for the posts than the sale itself, maybe even more so.

Makes me really appreciate just how special this thread was, and proud to have been a part of it.

IAmSinistar: Well said. This sale is more sedate by comparison, apart from random GOGbear maulings. The Insomnia sale really did live up to its name, especially in the first 24 hours before anyone knew that items would be repeated. Folks were posting like mad all through that one, it was great.
avatar
nijuu: Yeah bit sedate. I actually preferred the hectic nature (ok ok Jack Keane 2/RCR/Eador/ slowpoke games aside) of the Insomnia sale. They need to hold an Insomnia II sale at some point :)
It was those slow games that made this thread a community, though. With the quick games, there was hardly time to chat, nor something to commiserate (okay, b*tch) about. ;)
I miss this, excruciatingly wonderful thing that it was.
I do hope they repeat the Insomnia Sale, sometime, even if only in abbreviated form. I just hope I can survive it with more grace in my RL next time :P

EDIT: I forgot to add... Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Fabulous gaming with friends and family! (and sleep, precious sleep...)

I agree with what everyone of you have said. It was truly an unforgettable experience. One of those things in life that happens only on rare occasions .. Glad I could have been a part of it with everyone else. It is a great group of gamers to be sure :) and a very good time was had by all.
I remember jumping into this thread in the first 20 pages and striking up a conversation. It was like this was a whole big party in here and it had that awkward mingling phase in the beginning. Then somebody calls you over and you relax. I kinda regret dropping out of here after the first rotation, sounds like I would have met more folks :P Every time someone posts in here, it's like a drunk finally waking up while the hosts are cleaning up and realizing they have to go home. Then you have that fond recollection of the craziness that occurred on GOG.
Sounds like everyone had a good time
Yes. The people before me have described the feeling this thread has way better than I can do.
It was the first thread I read here in GOG, so for me it is even more special. During the sale I discovered a great community here, something much better than I ever hoped to find in this website.
Also, I have the feeling this thread is one of those things that happen very rarely, and I doubt some other topic in the near future is going to be as great as this one has been (although I wish it happens from the bottom of my heart).
Greetings to you all. I hope you have a merry Christmas and get all the deals you have been looking for.
See you around!
