Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Schemilix: I am not female, and I have breasts. My gender has not changed, thank you.
avatar
Buenro-games: Well, excuse me for getting all confused about that then. I have no issues with gender of any type or anything like that, I only indicated that stereotypes in gaming regarding male and female forms come from ways back and will likely evolve slowly into the future. Male stereotypes though have never garnered much notoriety as females have even though both are really nonsensical when applied to the population as a whole, but it is what it is.
Well the male stereotypes are to some degree damaging to young men who play the games (less so the young women), but we were discussing the women. When people are discussing issues that affect women, derailing it by making it all about men again is not good. Like women's week, people complain about that. As if the other 51 aren't be default man's week. This is like that.

I like to play as the big burly men because they're cool. It's not realistic, sure. I like to play as the cool women, too, because some games either don't 'male gaze' them or do so in a way that's reasonable and appropriate to their character. Or manage to make them attractive in practical clothing. I mean what's wrong with ugly women, jee. The problem is while the males are just there, the female characters in games get put in according to their worth as 'beautiful' to not-homosexual male gamers. Not lesbians or bisexual women, though by all means there's a peripheral demographic for that.

Basically men have a lot more well-fleshed, cool characters in their games. Sacred: Fortress has a boobtacular mage and a muscle-tacular man. I don't have a problem with either. But '50 pages of backstory Jack' and 'one page of backstory Jill swaying her buttocks and needing to be saved' is a lil'... well.

It's different. It's very much different. At least the huge bulging muscles and power armour serves one in combat.

Women in real life are judged w-a-a-y more by their appearance than guys are, though guys are indeed judged. Female worth is judged by appearance a lot of the time. You know most mothers would prefer a pretty daughter to a smart one?

JohnnyDollar: Who here played Raid over Moscow on C64? My friends and I thought that was a fun game back in the day. We used to sit there and take turns playing.

How about Winter Games? I was pretty good at that except for the figure skating. I never could figure out how to get a high score in skating. A whole group of my friends would play multiplayer and compete.

PanzerAzelSaturn: Winter games was so frustrating. I remember just playing to get to the bobsled racing, which must have been fun or something because i't what I remember playing for. The figure skating was completely messed up, not sure it was even possible to do well. Probably the one of the hardest things I've ever done gaming wise was trying to land those jumps.
We used to laugh at each other during the figure skating. I had the Biathlon perfected. That and Ski jumping. A friend of mine always beat me in the Bobsled. He had a trick that he used, I would watch him move the joystick but I never could duplicate him.

Xiko91: Never played The Last of Us for the PS3?
No but ND became a favorite after playing Jak & Daxter, used to regard Insomniac as the best Sony developer but now I consider ND and Sucker Punch to be the best ones. I have had my eyes on that title though so that will be a game I will play when I have the time and can afford getting it=).

israr665: Did gog do something special after its last game up for sale ?
Like a couple of free games at the end or did it just stop and that's it ?
Nope. Just a "promo has ended" banner.

ND was already great with the PS1 trilogy of Crash Bandicoot. Those were awesome. The Last of Us is another fantastic game, worth every cent.

Oh, well. I don't want a freebie, but something - anything - would have been nice. Maybe a picture of Jack Keane that says "Get some rest"? I don't know. Great reaction from the Nordic Games guys, though.

I only bought four games (because I already have something around 280) but the whole sale was fun and it introduced me to the concept of keaning. Thanks! I hoped it worked out for you guys at gog as well.

Phew, didn't miss anything. :D
In honor of Jack Keane, allow me to use this quote from the movie "Sandlot":

"Heroes are remembered, but legends never die."

Keane 4ever.
On the topic of Jack Keane... I grew a beard while I was waiting for that game to run out.
