Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Funny Dragon's Crown came up. I'm playing it now. The sexualized characters don't really bug me much, that's the style and I'm OK with it. Something like the ditsy scantily clad girls in Final Fantasy games bothers me much more. The boobs on the shop lady are a little distracting though, even for me. They just heave a bit too much.

Buenro-games: Conan the Barbarian never had an issue with it, and I am sure females never complained about the way Arnold S. looked in that role. It was models like him which are the hallmark of what we now consider the way both males and females dressed in fantasy settings. You just need to know a bit about history of where things we now consider as stereotypes comes from.

I mean here is a set of images of Conan, you see, unless you are aware of were this stuff comes from, then you just don't know why things are the way things are.

Google Conan Images

Schemilix: Conan doesn't have breasts. I don't think you have breasts. I don't think you understand that if you're going to be doing backflips across a mountain and swinging an axe and kicking people in the head you need those things tied down or they're going to hurt like a motherfucker and impede you.

My friend's a DD, she can't run without a sports bra! Conan's not being sexualised anyway, it's to show off his AWESOME RIPPLING MUSCLES. Now if his butt was on show and constantly in the camera and he has constant crotch shots and nipple shots, I'm sure most people would be sort of uncomfortable with that too.

Plus if we don't line Conan we can go watch something else. Women with their boobs hanging out of their armour are everywhere, hard to avoid.
You talk pretty authoritatively for someone who doesn't have breasts either. Just saying...

To be fair... I'd be more likely to lose a sword fight if my opponent's (or companion's) boob slid out of their armor.

Schemilix: Well sure, I find the big, muscle bound men kinda trite and ridiculous. But this self-centred male gamer mentality pretty stupid.

Look up the difference between a power fantasy and a sex fantasy. Those big huge ugly muscle bound men? Why, they dominate the whole place, the story, the settings. The women? Oh poor me, my big boobs are swaying as the big muscular hero comes to save me, oh woe is me! It's degrading. I actually do not mind women being sexualised, like I said, as long as the women are characterised well. They don't even need to kick ass! Not every woman has to kick ass to be a worthwhile human being, after all. It's practicality. Is she up a mountain with her arse out? Why! Is she in a tropical rainforest with minimal clothing? Well suddenly that makes sense.

I don't like the huge bulging muscular man wearing heavy armour in a fucking desert either, it breaks immersion. I love the Amazon out of Dragon's Crown. I think she's sexy as all Hell, and she kicks ass, and her lack of dress makes sense because she's a Barbarian and barbarians never wear clothes in fantasy games.

You wonder why? Maybe because men aren't historically oppressed and commodified for entertainment and profiteering. Hmmmmm... That's a coincidence. Try not to make your arguments with sarcasm, it weakens them.

BananaJane: I don't even see the appeal of huge muscled men
Now I gotta confess... I do. Vagrant Story does the whole 'sexy people everywhere!' thing right, in my opinion. Look at Merlose's outfit. She's hot as hellfire and a well characterised, independent character to boot. Sure she spends the game captive, but it's to her advantage; she's a spy. Then there's Neesa - tall, dark and beautiful, and capable of kicking your ass from one end of Leá Monde to the other. And Samantha with her short skirt and her tragic death is an example of a weak female character done in a believable way. She's weak because some people are weak, insecure, or ignorant.

Yes I do. If I run up and down stairs without a bra on, it's uncomfortable, and I'm an A cup. Take your assumptions elsewhere.

m000: Thanks gog team! That was fun - despite the loss of sleep :-)

Will you be posting any statistics on the sale? That would be awesome! To name a few: fastest/slowest selling games, sale speed vs. price, sale speed vs. discount, category with most games sold, copies sold per release year etc.

Draggon: fyi - http://www.gog.com/forum/general/special_promo_fall_insomnia_promo/post35390

Also, was Jagged Alliance 2 on sale? I was specifically looking forward to it, but either I lost it or it wasn't included in the sale. I already own a Windows copy, so I was hoping to get the Mac version on a budget price ;-)

I only said that because you explicitly said in a post before that you were not female. I can go hunt the post if you want me to but I hope you spare me the tediousness of that. If you want to change gender now, it's fine by me, but don't act as if I just mentioned that out of the blue.

I am not female, and I have breasts. My gender has not changed, thank you.
Well, seems I am still in that 2 hours lucid and 2 hours must sleep mode, I really would like to see the sale stats they will be posting, so hopefully I'll see you all after a bit of rest. Have some fun you have all earned it. Latter...

Never played The Last of Us for the PS3?
Who here played Raid over Moscow on C64? My friends and I thought that was a fun game back in the day. We used to sit there and take turns playing.

How about Winter Games? I was pretty good at that except for the figure skating. I never could figure out how to get a high score in skating. A whole group of my friends would play multiplayer and compete.

Well, excuse me for getting all confused about that then. I have no issues with gender of any type or anything like that, I only indicated that stereotypes in gaming regarding male and female forms come from ways back and will likely evolve slowly into the future. Male stereotypes though have never garnered much notoriety as females have even though both are really nonsensical when applied to the population as a whole, but it is what it is.

Winter games was so frustrating. I remember just playing to get to the bobsled racing, which must have been fun or something because i't what I remember playing for. The figure skating was completely messed up, not sure it was even possible to do well. Probably the one of the hardest things I've ever done gaming wise was trying to land those jumps.
Did gog do something special after its last game up for sale ?
Like a couple of free games at the end or did it just stop and that's it ?

Schemilix: Haha, if I knew, I'd do it myself.

"Dear game devs, I have it from my larger-chested friends that boobs not adequately strapped down hurt when they flop about during strenuous activities such as a bloody, frantic battle, have a care for your poor ladies of war!"

Buenro-games: It must be horrible to like video games a lot and having so much problems with the way both males and females are depicted in them. I mean, you are upset at the way males are depicted also, right? You just don't bring up that issue because it slips your mind, no? Even if you are not a female yourself.

Surely not all male gamers fit the huge muscle bound types or the suave james bond type, which make the bulk of gaming heroes in the games. Strangely, most male gamers (as well as female gamers) don't squabble much about that. I know I don't. I wonder why?
In all honesty, because it just doesn't bother me. Just like it doesn't bother me that all the male underwear ads have Rico Suave with a 6 pack you literally could wash clothing on. I don't know why they don't bother me, they just don't. Maybe its because I am confident with myself, in regards to both the kind of person I am and the way I look. Maybe its because I see those adds for exactly what they are. marketing techniques to try and get people to buy the products. "Buy these underwear and you too can look like this". Yeah right. I just don't fall for any of it so it just doesnt bother me. Never has and it never will.
