Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Schemilix: I'm gonna miss this thread. Most people hanging around are genuinely friendly even with chronic sleep dep, and seeing different viewpoints on life is always interesting, even when I don't agree.

JohnnyDollar: It's been fun. I kinda want to say that the thread made the promo, but that's going too far probably. It certainly complemented it well though, I think.
Without the thread I would probably not have stayed as long as I did. I haven´t played any of my games during this "hellish" sale, now I can get back to Batman : AA and Torchlight...Thief 2 and NWN 2 looks very tempting though=).

I seriously doubt I would have stuck it out through the sale without this forum, I can't imagine just staring at the screen watching to count down bar for all that time. I would not have gotten two games I did not know about, and probably would not have waited through to get all the games I wanted. And I laughed till I had tears in my eyes more times than once , also learned a great deal from some of the technical posts. Excellent experience.

BillyMaysFan59: I'm glad this sale is finally over...it was getting old rather than intense. Looking forward now to the next weekend promo!

Running on 2 Eadors here (and have had about 8 Eadors total over the past 3 keanes), so I can sympathise!

Moto Racer 3? Sure it was not Moto Racer 1 and 2 but I don´t think it belongs on that list=).

I was only here to watch the thread at first, the sale and games I bought was just a bonus... ;)

Soon I'm going to install Sacred Gold and explore for awhile...

I personally didn't like Moto Racer 3 that much. We all have personal opinions don't we.......Master of Orion 3 has a few good reviews :D

Hahaha! The wife told me I had to go to sleep around 2:50 so I turned down the screen on my iPod and watched the sale wrap on there while in bed. :-)

Just reread my post, I bought Thief 2 and NWN 2 (never really planned on getting any game) after this thread got me hooked. Meant that I am very tempted to start playing those titles instead of Torchlight or Batman : AA=).

Schemilix: I en't a lady as such but I know lady-gamers. Either way, yeah, not all games are violent. Gaming really is looked down upon as childish or destructive, but any new form of media is. People don't like change.

Games're just too reluctant to market something gender-neutrally. For girls you get to pretend to be a vet or a cook or whatever. For boys you get titties and shootin' stuff. Ridiculous marketing.

FInal Fantasy is very popular among women because they lack such obviously gendered marketing, and, recognising that, Final Fantasy now cater to all genders in their stuff. And orientations, too. They put in eye candy for people into men or into women. I think that's part of it. Women can enjoy a sexy protag, too.

I'm into girls but the 'sexy girls' used in games don't appeal to me, partially because I know the anatomy don't work that way. Sexualising's all well and fine but it tends to be at the expense of character development. It's a slight stereotype but females do tend to prioritise story over other aspects of games. Women, as a rule, are very into immersion and such, and like to sympathise with characters. It's why 'fandoms' tend to be composed mainly of women; women get involved in things and like to create things to reflect that. So do men natch, but just in my experience I notice it's something of a story vs. gameplay thing.

cpucrust: Now this is an interesting sub-thread. My wife rolled her eyes when she observed how much time I was devoting to catching the insomnia sales. In the past, she has played some network games like Age of Empires. But there are so many other things she would rather do with her 'fun/free' time. Not all women are like this, of course, but in my circles of people I know, it is safe to say in general that computer/console gaming is on a lower level of interest for them.

I love my wife dearly and she tolerates my interests as I tolerate hers. Fortunately books and movies are of a common interest between us. I'm amazed that she wants to go see action movies like "Fast&Furious" and all the Sci Fi/Fantasy stuff - no "Sleepless in Seattle" crap for her!
Recently she informed/teased me how much I've spent on GOG. I lightly replied that the catalog of games adds up to about two beauty salon visits for her(!) It's all good though - I respect her and her interests even though I don't fully understand the way she thinks about certain things.

I have a good laugh at the sexualization's in some of these games I have though and generally try to avoid the titles that have too much of it.
I think it might be more of a personality difference rather than a gender one. I wear make up, but I would never spend money on going to the beauty salon when I could spend that money on games. The reason for that is simply that I enjoy one more than the other. Just like how I like watching movies but can't stand seeing sports on tv. I think the gender neutral point is a very good one. We don't really need games specifically for stereotypical ideas of men and women. We need things that strike an enjoyable balance for everyone.

LOL, :)
Does anyone have a 3DS and the Bravely Default demo? I swear, that game does the classic 'go out and kill monsters for loot' in the most adorable and perfect way.

This is my favourite, though all four have charming personalities and appearances (tough but elegant knight lady, gentle magical duchess type, flamboyant charmer and the sweet young man). Look at her. Look!
