Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Schemilix: 'Afternoon. I got a whole bunch. Then again I didn't have a huge stock to start with.
I know, I've been reading through the last few pages to see what happened in here since I left. :D

Now you just have to find the time to play them, though it is perfectly fine to just play each a little bit, until you find one that grabs you and keeps your interest to the end of the game.
One amusing thing the conversation regarding gender reminded me of - how many times a person has, for whatever reason, assumed I was one and then expressed shock when they found out I was the other. If nothing else, on some level there are gender stereotypes regarding typing ability.
Thank you GOG for having this interesting promotion, here's what I got:

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate II
Deus Ex GOTY Edition
Legend of Grimrock
Master of Magic (Freebie)
Might and Magic 6-Pack
Megabyte Punch
Neverwinter Nights Diamond
Nox
Planescape Torment
Postal 2 Complete
Primordia
Thief 3: Deadly Shadows
Tomb Raider 1+2+3
The Witcher 2
Total Annihilation Kingdoms
Unwritten Tales

I definitely went overboard hehe.. I used to own a few of these games but I lost the cds or they were damaged. I got almost everything I wanted. I still spent less money than what I would have spent on 1 brand new AAA title so I can't complain, I got a ton of games here. The way I see it, I would have bought these games eventually anyway, and I did it on a good promotion with great deals, so I did well.

Now bring on the X-Mas sale... I got unfinished business. ;-)
Oooh Show-n-Tell, here's mine in order of purchase (wasn't quick enough for freebies)

- Don't Starve
- Total Annihilation: Kingdoms + Expansion
- Two Worlds 2: Epic Edition
- The Lords of Midnight
- Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator
- Rogue Legacy
- The Chaos Engine
- Reus
- Fez
- Jade Empire: Special Edition

For a little over $20 there's some damn fine gaming there!

Thanks GOG, it was awesome.

don2712: I have been wondering how many female participants there were in this promo, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of games written to interest female players, they seem to be almost exclusively written by men for men.

I've tried to get my wife interested in video games without any success, she can't understand why I play them or what I see in them. Her fovourite comment is "Why do you always have to be killing things?" which is not strictly true as I have many games with no fighting at all plus, I have explained that when the Zombie apocalypse comes I'll be well trained and ready but, that doesn't seem to help.

Perhaps, with us guys trying to get our partners interested is just an effort to get our hobby accepted as a valid pastime and not a silly waste of time and money when there are always more important things to do and buy, our ladies do not seem to appreciate that at least it keeps us off the streets.

If there are any ladies on this blog I would be interested to hear their views.
I en't a lady as such but I know lady-gamers. Either way, yeah, not all games are violent. Gaming really is looked down upon as childish or destructive, but any new form of media is. People don't like change.

Games're just too reluctant to market something gender-neutrally. For girls you get to pretend to be a vet or a cook or whatever. For boys you get titties and shootin' stuff. Ridiculous marketing.

FInal Fantasy is very popular among women because they lack such obviously gendered marketing, and, recognising that, Final Fantasy now cater to all genders in their stuff. And orientations, too. They put in eye candy for people into men or into women. I think that's part of it. Women can enjoy a sexy protag, too.

I'm into girls but the 'sexy girls' used in games don't appeal to me, partially because I know the anatomy don't work that way. Sexualising's all well and fine but it tends to be at the expense of character development. It's a slight stereotype but females do tend to prioritise story over other aspects of games. Women, as a rule, are very into immersion and such, and like to sympathise with characters. It's why 'fandoms' tend to be composed mainly of women; women get involved in things and like to create things to reflect that. So do men natch, but just in my experience I notice it's something of a story vs. gameplay thing.

pds41: No Freebie after Psychonauts - it just said the Promotion was over. However, we did get a release of Grimm, which is just as exciting.

jackster79: Nope. The promo just ended in typical promo anti-climatic fashion. The thread, THE THREAD, however, lives on... :-D
Thanks for the answer. A bit of a missed opportunity, I think.
For anyone who missed the Thief games, Thief 1-3 are on sale on Green Man Gaming.

Thief Gold: $1.74
Thief 2: $1.74
Thief: Deadly Shadows: $2.24
Thief pack (1-3): $4.74

I'm bummed though. The GMG20-ODON7-FLUA7 20% off voucher isn't working. Maybe that's because the titles aren't officially on the front page yet?

I run people in circles, I admit. People also guess my age wrong, though.

Are there? You have it both ways.

Stereotypes:
-Men are immature so they type badly.
-Men are smart and logical, so they type well.

-Women are emotional and casual, so they type badly.
-Women take care in their appearance, so they type well.
Guess I'll put up my final purchase list aswellllll

Round 1:
Rogue Legacy

Round 2:
Alpha Centauri
Witcher 2
Septerra Core
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2

Freebie:
Master Of Magic

Round 3:
Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale

Jade Empire
Heroes of M&M 3
Sword of the Stars
(these last three are gifts I got as possible barters for TombRaider1+2+3 or Fallout 2)

CorranHorn: Starchild from the old V series=)?
avatar
Starchild771: Ah no, the name comes from a band (Parliament/Funkadelic) that I was listening to at the time :)
There is something familiar with the words "If you hear any noise, It's just me and the boys". If you like reggae music and haven´t played Monkey Island then maybe you like this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMoxWi-9zpA

The game has really good music, the music makes the games even better=).

This is coming from a person that is a Heavy Metal and Hard Rock fan=).

Celton88: How many posts do you think we'll get up to? 12k?
Just happened to come across this while reading the link below that talks about JK2's appearance in the 3rd round, and I laughed hysterically. Oh, if you only knew what was to come...

There seems to be, in my experience. Of course, I was dealing with the dregs of the internet at the time, so who knows how valid the information really is.
I was able to buy all the games I wanted ( and then 2 on impulse and recommendations in the forum) . Put a major dent in my wish list, and for just a dollar or two more than what the most expensive game on my wish list is priced at normally. Made me very happy.

I really enjoyed the good company in this forum, pulling through the ( a game whose name will not be mentioned ) (Kea....opps almost slipped....

I would not want to do it all again, too soon, but hope it comes around again.

I would like to ask if GOG has said anything about making this a permanent forum ? Call it Zombie Insomnia Users Group, or something I would like to be able to read some of the really good posts again when refreshed.

Well, thanks again to you all and to GOG...

Hope you , each and all got all the games you wanted.
Man... I couldn't find a credit card so I just watched for freebies, for 12 hours.
Its too bad the sale didnt end with a special gift. a Freebie would have been nice for those of us with mortal internet connections. Oh well still glad i got so many amazing games on the cheap and it was nice talking with the community during the sale.

If anything it feels weird now that the sale is over.
