Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

SpiderFighter: Amazing...and it made me feel all fuzzy inside to be on the receiving end.

I now have 11 new games from the list, but the one I'm playing is that one. :)

JohnnyDollar: Sentimental value? That's how I am with gifts that I receive sometimes.
Absolutely. :) Here's my final damage:

Games I wanted and got:
Heroes of M&M 3
Brutal Legend
King's Bounty: Crossworlds COTY
Anvil of Dawn

Games I wanted and missed:
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver --(gifted by MrTanelorn - Thanks!)

Games I bought on impulse:
Psychonauts
Beyond Good & Evil
Wargame: European Escalation ($6.99 - just realized I have it on Steam from a Humble. Ugh. Oh well, I'd rather have it here)
Wing Commander: Privateer
Aquanox
Startopia

Schemilix: Nobody's calling you an oppressor, nobody's saying you tread people down. What people are saying is that you benefit from a system others have constructed, and you are, in your viewpoint, obstructing the deconstruction of that - what is called the patriarchy - because the status quo benefits you.
I do. Addressing people in the thread as "guys" is normal. Crying about ZOMG PC POLIIIIICE when a lady expressed a preference and a thank you for not forgetting the ladies is textbook oppression.

Cracked to the rescue. (Author is a dude. I know, because I sent him money years ago.)

jackster79: +1 as I wholeheartedly agree. Shame all good things must end.
Yeah, but some endings are more rewarding than others. This one was less.
Been eyeing Primordia for a while now, and I finally got it from this promo.

Apart from that, I walked away with a copy of Shadow Man and Rayman Origins. Wasn't interested in them before, but since I've heard mostly good things about them I thought I would give them a shot. My backlog grows!! :D

True, I suppose. I prefer to steer away from such accusations, however, since they tend to make people respond poorly because, well, it's only natural to resist being called names. And because not knowing the extent of an issue isn't a crime, either. Sexism is a very insidious part of our culture, to the extent many people don't think it exists, so it's easier to just blamelessly point out this or that way of thinking, but that is my way of going about things.

I really don't think that poster meant badly. I think reacting that way is merely that he doesn't want to be perceived as sexist. At least not wanting to be perceived as sexist is a step. Not being sexist is the next step. And most people are, if not misogynist, genuinely affected by the way society works, the way patriarchy hurts women and backfired on men and so hurts men.

I mean people talk about male-only issues as if they aren't the opposite end of the same sad coin. It's all shackles.
Finally got my digital backup-copy of Deus Ex and Thief 1-3, and I even won Spellforce, so that was a really good sale for me.

Can anybody tell me if there was a freebie after Psychonauts?

JohnnyDollar: You're not the only one that suspected that. ;)

And there's probably several instances of your example, as I imagine you agree. I guess it's one of those things that isn't enough of a problem to really get our attention given the circumstances.

SpiderFighter: This kind of thing makes me sad, especially as this community is more generous than most. I can't even count the number of games I've gifted over the past couple of years here, but I was stunned this morning, when I was generously gifted a copy of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver by MrTanelorn, simply because I had posted a final tally of games I wanted and bought, games I missed, and games that were impulse buys. It was the only game I had missed, and I didn't ask for it...it was just mixed into my list.

Amazing...and it made me feel all fuzzy inside to be on the receiving end.

+1 for sharing that story! I know there are others like it, but it is always awesome to hear of such things. The community is generous in gifting, but most awesome when you get a gift you did not even ask for.

+1 to MrTanelorn for doing that - such actions are amongst the reasons I keep coming back. Not for the gift, but for the positive vibe it brings to the GOG community at large. I know that I am amongst very good folks.
Let me see what I've bought:

- The Dark Eye: chains of Satinav. Probably gonna regret that, no idea why I bought that.
- Nexus The Jupiter Incident. Got that already on disc, but for $2 it's nice to have a digital version.
- Two Worlds 2: Epic Edition. The first game was far from perfect, but I liked it nonetheless.
- HOMM5 Bundle. Only had the base game, liked it a lot.
- Jade Empire: Special Edition.

Already had 115 games before the sale started, the best ones were already in my collection. Now to find the time to actually play them...

No Freebie after Psychonauts - it just said the Promotion was over. However, we did get a release of Grimm, which is just as exciting.

Nope. The promo just ended in typical promo anti-climatic fashion. The thread, THE THREAD, however, lives on... :-D
Good morning, Good day, and Good evening, to all....

My final tally was 3 games.

Sacred Gold

Heroes of Might and Magic 5

Jade Empire
BTW I recommend buying the Weekly Humble Bundle just for Jagged Alliance Classic Collection. If you pay less than a dollar (I paid like $.20) they don't bog ya down with steam keys of the random games and just gives you a drm-free Jag collection

'Afternoon. I got a whole bunch. Then again I didn't have a huge stock to start with.
I have been wondering how many female participants there were in this promo, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of games written to interest female players, they seem to be almost exclusively written by men for men.

I've tried to get my wife interested in video games without any success, she can't understand why I play them or what I see in them. Her fovourite comment is "Why do you always have to be killing things?" which is not strictly true as I have many games with no fighting at all plus, I have explained that when the Zombie apocalypse comes I'll be well trained and ready but, that doesn't seem to help.

Perhaps, with us guys trying to get our partners interested is just an effort to get our hobby accepted as a valid pastime and not a silly waste of time and money when there are always more important things to do and buy, our ladies do not seem to appreciate that at least it keeps us off the streets.

If there are any ladies on this blog I would be interested to hear their views.
Just got home after several hours of AFK. So, there was no big bang at the end? No surprises? Not that the promo wasn't a hoot already, but I kinda expected some final treat or something.
