Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Thanks gog team! That was fun - despite the loss of sleep :-)

Will you be posting any statistics on the sale? That would be awesome! To name a few: fastest/slowest selling games, sale speed vs. price, sale speed vs. discount, category with most games sold, copies sold per release year etc.

Also, was Jagged Alliance 2 on sale? I was specifically looking forward to it, but either I lost it or it wasn't included in the sale. I already own a Windows copy, so I was hoping to get the Mac version on a budget price ;-)

Cheers and thanks again!

Ahhh okay ty, Don't think I would have made it an extra 4ish hours even if I had trumpet blaring in my ear

wackyanne: WTH?! Post-posting rebound leads me to this comment on page 625, from page 713 (or around the 35670 comment mark). I'm from New Brunswick (still here, in fact). Talk about random!

Cheers! :D

CalicoPup: Yeah, mine keeps doing that as well.

It kinda gets on my nerves.

And by kinda, I mean Really.
Oh, yeah, it's been bouncing back farther and farther everytime I post - back 80 pages now.

However, my point was that it bounced back to a time I was offline, to lead me to some random post where a person (actually two) saying they are from my home province. As its population is only about 750K, it's a pretty huge coincidence that someone (actually two someones) is not only from here, but _talking_ about it. In fact, I think my odds of getting _every_ free game would have been better!

;D

sedaps: My finally tally:

Jack Keane 2 - 2 copies
Hotline Miami
Lucius - 3 copies
Megabyte Punch
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded
Eador: Masters of the Broken World

I went a little bit overboard. Curse you GOG and your addicting promotion.
*fixed*

Wow, I guess you did. Congrats.

Buenro-games: I wonder...

Edit: Actually I just remembered the case of one generous community member getting frustrated at a beggar because he had just given him some games, and he was back in the forum asking for more. He told the beggar that he had just received Planescape from him and should not be continuously asking for more games. Then some other forum member pops up and says: "Huh, I just gave that guy a Planescape key as well". LOL, some people did abuse it. smh :P

JohnnyDollar: You're not the only one that suspected that. ;)

And there's probably several instances of your example, as I imagine you agree. I guess it's one of those things that isn't enough of a problem to really get our attention given the circumstances.
This kind of thing makes me sad, especially as this community is more generous than most. I can't even count the number of games I've gifted over the past couple of years here, but I was stunned this morning, when I was generously gifted a copy of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver by MrTanelorn, simply because I had posted a final tally of games I wanted and bought, games I missed, and games that were impulse buys. It was the only game I had missed, and I didn't ask for it...it was just mixed into my list.

Amazing...and it made me feel all fuzzy inside to be on the receiving end.

I now have 11 new games from the list, but the one I'm playing is that one. :)

Schemilix: In ways your thinking is correct and putting too much emphasis on such matters causes resentment. On the other hand you are, I assume, a man, and don't understand what it is to be marginalised for your sex. It's as simple as that lack of understanding - it's why straight people are called 'allies'. The methods of conduct should not be defined by the oppressor basically.

Not that you're being unreasonable, just this kind of 'political correctness gone mad' dialogue CAN turn problematic in that some people (white, straight, male, depending on the hierarchy in place) think 'the fight of this or that group is inconvenient for me, the person who benefits from the systems society currently has in place'.
avatar
seaspanky: I think my point goes right to this issue though. The idea that there is some inherent oppressor/victim relationship at the core of everything. The idea that an assumption like that should be informing the politically correct standards for language and conduct of everyone before all other considerations. I enjoy pleasant civil conversations more than I do accusatory victim/oppressor assumptions. Why should the worldview and assumptions of others require my obedient acquiescence? Why shouldn't I protest the idea that my being born as (white, straight, or male) labels me or anyone else as an inherent "oppressor" of some kind, regardless of whether or not we behave in an entirely cordial, civil, and well-natured manner to all?

avatar
Starmaker: Stop this shit-smearing right away. "Politically correct" means not disturbing the status quo. Keeping in power those who are currently in power. If you're questioning the current practice, you're not being "politically correct". Feminism cannot be politically correct. And using "guys and gals" is not the fucking standard, hence the requested change.

BlueLemon said using "guys" erases the women. Does it? Idunno, but women are erased from the audience, that's a fact. Look up threads on "how many gamers are women". Look up marketing campaigns for just about every AAA title. And that's why BlueLemon VERY POLITELY suggests making this change to the language we use in our daily life may positively contribute to the representation of women in our hobby. And you bring out the concern troll dogwhistles.

Suck a lollipop and live.
avatar
seaspanky: Come on now... This is a good example of what political correctness devolves into. A mere method of control to stifle language to suit the demands of whatever pressure group with an agenda is conveniently pursuing it as a means of control. I talk of civil polite conversations, I get slammed with incivility. Why exactly? Because my opposition to the uncivil strict demands of some worldview based on identity politics MUST mean I am a paragon of "oppression". I asked about an informal and pleasant polite conversational tone to discussions, and the positive choice by anyone to ignore perceived slights, intentional or unintentional, rather than assume the worst about innocent comments. Was that in some way "not polite"? You have some other agenda beyond civility that you are pushing that I think is behind your obviously unpleasant response to me.
And you just blundered right into, 'feminists are inconvenient to me, therefore I'm going to insult them and/or say they're obsolete'. You say there is no victim/oppressor relationship because you are on the advantageous end of a bad gender imbalance. I'm not calling you an oppressor. To say that you are not is to, again, pull the argument onto what matters to the male sex, what is important to the male sex and what affects him. It is a very entitled viewpoint to say that you are offended by others being offended. Nobody's calling you an oppressor, nobody's saying you tread people down. What people are saying is that you benefit from a system others have constructed, and you are, in your viewpoint, obstructing the deconstruction of that - what is called the patriarchy - because the status quo benefits you.

Your viewpoint is one of 'well it doesn't affect me, so anyone saying it exists must be stupid'. In gaming women are marginalised, often insulted purely for being around. Not you, no. But your actions do not exist in a bubble. Political correctness has nothing to do with this. Just respect when someone would like to be acknowledged, would you? It's a simple, plain request which takes little effort from you. I for one use guys gender neutrally. Others do not. If someone if bothered, don't get offended if they're upset by entering into a friendly environment and being effectively ignored.

Yes it's by a mistake, but I tripped over a dog just yesterday by mistake, I still petted the dog to say sorry. Intent is one thing, good intent means nothing if you don't acknowledge the flaws of a negative outcome.
Rogue Legacy was all I bought, just nothing I saw I wanted or needed. Bring on the XMAS sale :)
avatar
Starmaker: No, LIAR. Your false claim that BlueLemon was "uncivil", "strict" and "demanding" brands you as an oppressor and a concern troll.

Love you, and go suck a barrel of lollipops.

Yay, I'm oppressing a bigot. Go me.

trustymutsi: Funny, I forgot how much you needed the manual back in the olden days. Played some Master of Orion, and kept waiting for the tutorial to start

The Blackwell Bundle*
Don't Starve*
Shelter*
Resonance*
King of Dragon Pass*

*(the longer I stared, the more I thought "eh, why not?" and grabbed it on the last round)

the_bard: One more time for those that missed it the first time.
Not the first time I saw that, but still. For putting it together and sharing it, you get a +1!

Just one of the many many memorable moments of this Woodstock-ish sale. :-D
