Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

lugum: I am stll in the process of replaying it, never finished 4 or 5. but i want to do it in the right order, so started from the first.
But ugh the second part with all the walking around in those streets, so annoying.

wackyanne: I love HQ2 best of all, but that was one of the few Sierra games we actually didn't "own" but had copied. So we had to make do with a hand-drawn map of our own. I'm hoping that the GOG version will relieve me of guilt and of map-making ;)
There are plenty of maps. ;)

I believe the remake made the map part also a bit easier, but haven't tried it.

TheEnigmaticT: Whew!

We'll post some facts here in this thread and on social media as well in a bit, but I wanted to say thanks for staying up with us in our Insomnia Sale. Get some sleep, y'all. :)
It's been fun Mr Enigmatic :) I know you guys have never done this before, but would you consider doing a community post or a vlog to tell us what this sale and reading the longest thread on this site ever was like for you?
It would be awesome :3

seaspanky: I was specifically responding to the comment "It's not PC at all. It's just not ignoring half the population." in defense of the comment "Extra note: Sometimes I've read people calling everyone guys, or chaps, Sir (when they don't know their gender) assuming that everyone is male here. I've +1'd the people who tend to include everyone, or write ladies and gentlemen, guys and gals... "

If everyone had agreed that using "guys" to describe everyone was "acceptable" then there wouldn't have been a politically correct standard being applied in these comments here.
Stop this shit-smearing right away. "Politically correct" means not disturbing the status quo. Keeping in power those who are currently in power. If you're questioning the current practice, you're not being "politically correct". Feminism cannot be politically correct. And using "guys and gals" is not the fucking standard, hence the requested change.

BlueLemon said using "guys" erases the women. Does it? Idunno, but women are erased from the audience, that's a fact. Look up threads on "how many gamers are women". Look up marketing campaigns for just about every AAA title. And that's why BlueLemon VERY POLITELY suggests making this change to the language we use in our daily life may positively contribute to the representation of women in our hobby. And you bring out the concern troll dogwhistles.

Suck a lollipop and live.

I wonder, at the rate that this thread is still going, will you guys push it past 40000 entries?

wackyanne: *sob* A gamer after my own heart. I _did_ weaken, and use QFG for clarity's sake, but to me, too, it will always be Hero's Quest. Funnily enough, this last year as I've gotten back into tabletop gaming was the first time I discovered that "other Hero's Quest"... and yet, my first D&D character since I was ten is named after my Hero! (and rolled and illustrated as one, too) ;D

CalicoPup: Sadly, the computer I had was incapable of playing any of the others as it didn't have a Hard Drive and by the time I got a computer with a Hard Drive, they were no longer available.

That's why my experience with the Quest games stops around 3 or 4 for most of them.
I never played #5, nor the remake of #2; the former because I'd moved onto things other than gaming for awhile, and the latter for similar reasons. I came to GOG because I learned that the creators had kickstarted a new-boot of Hero's Quest, called Hero-U http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878147873/hero-u-rogue-to-redemption. Come to think of it, that's how I joined Kickstarter, too. I've just checked, and they are only in the demo stage.

Which will give me time to pick up the original series during the Christmas sales, and play through them all again!
Finally finished, huh? In that case, many thanks to the keepers of The List. And also to everyone else that made this thread so entertaining.

Keane love to you all

I think I heard something about that and only vaguely remember reading about it but I didn't join the kickstarter because I am, at best, a casual gamer. I really don't have that much time for games. The ones I bought at this sale when combined with the ones I bought at two previous sales will probably keep me for the next year or so.
Oh boy, I wonder how many Keane related threads are going to pop up now, and how long.

I feel a disturbance in the Keane, as if millions of gamers cried out. :P
Nooooooooo! The sale ended and I missed Jack Keane 2, Retro City Rampage and Eador!

I can't believe the thread is still going, are we pushing for 40K?
I wonder how many people died from dehydration during this sale? It was the most exhausting autumn sale I have ever seen. NEVER MORE!!!
You can't keep a good Keane down!

HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MISS KEANE!?

It was like Woodstock. We had one child birth. One guy walked around naked throughout the whole sale. Unfortunately we did have a casualty.

This is the best thing that's happened to me in my life.

:P

I gave up computer gaming a couple of years ago, really, but there are few classics I want to play a bit here and there. This sale has set me up for most of them, leaving only the Sierra Quests left. Plus, my older son is seven, and I'd like him to know that there is more depth to gaming than Angry Birds ;)
