Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

seaspanky: Except that it IS political correctness. Turning something relatively harmless and innocent, like lightly referring to people as "you guys", "chaps", or "sir", and having that be assumed as some indirect or direct disrespect for any/all females that are gamers or are in this thread. Can we have an informal and pleasant conversational tone to things without requiring strict adherence to rules regarding "proper" codes for language?

I find PC speech more divisive than open misogyny, which I can easily identify and ignore or rebut. Political correctness demands we all conform or suffer the consequences of trying to prove non-conformity to strident demands isn't somehow proof of "guilt" of some kind.

I hope friendly conversations about a hobby we all seem to enjoy is a worthy enough thing to decide to simply let minor slights, intentional or non-intentional, go without taking offense and putting everyone else on the defensive by bringing it up. Remember when we were just kids and could simply have fun with other kids without all of this other baggage? Yay?...
I'm afraid you _totally_ missed the point of the original discussion, and sadly, have fixated on another point. It's really best not to join in an a conversation midway, because of unfortunate misunderstandings like these. They were talking about having an overwhelmingly positive experience here, so scroll back and read the whole thing before commenting. One was getting harassed by one other person because she expressed her disappointment that Leisure Suit Larry was still so popular, that was part of what generated the discussion.
Assuming that the whole of the community is male is wrong, but treating everybody like one of the "guys" is fine. Everyone agreed that "guys" is inoffensive and perfectly acceptable 99% of the time, because it's seen as generally inclusive of both sexes.
I do want to call out GOG and thank them for providing for and facilitating this awesome promo and forum. As always, you keep validating why GOG is best!

Except that language shapes thought, and power in politics still lies with old rich white males. So call off the waaaambulance.

I find concern trolls more assholish than either group.

Appreciate the response seaspanky. Luckily this topic didn't spiral out of control, as it oh so very often does on other gaming websites. BlueLemon never intended to inflict any harm, and I assume was referring to previous posts that I wasn't around to see during the sale. As for reminiscing when we kids; isn't that the very reason we all attended this event, awaiting patiently for the next sale.

On that note, the generosity that occurred (and continues to) was fantastic to see. Hope you picked up on some cracking sales, and at least grab some enjoyment from them before everyone starts blaring in your ear to buy stuff because hey, it's Christmas :)

Have a great day!

wackyanne: And Quest for Glory!

Actually, that's why I stayed up for a good part of the Keaning... because I didn't yet know what was, and what wasn't included. The rest of the time I stayed up for fun, and for other games. But QFG.... oh how I want you!

CalicoPup: Quest for... Pshaw!

As far as I'm concerned it is, and always will be, Hero's Quest.

That's what I put on my Xmas list the year it came out, that's what I opened on XMas morning, and that's what I played for HOURS and HOURS, enjoying every minute of it!
*sob* A gamer after my own heart. I _did_ weaken, and use QFG for clarity's sake, but to me, too, it will always be Hero's Quest. Funnily enough, this last year as I've gotten back into tabletop gaming was the first time I discovered that "other Hero's Quest"... and yet, my first D&D character since I was ten is named after my Hero! (and rolled and illustrated as one, too) ;D

In ways your thinking is correct and putting too much emphasis on such matters causes resentment. On the other hand you are, I assume, a man, and don't understand what it is to be marginalised for your sex. It's as simple as that lack of understanding - it's why straight people are called 'allies'. The methods of conduct should not be defined by the oppressor basically.

Not that you're being unreasonable, just this kind of 'political correctness gone mad' dialogue CAN turn problematic in that some people (white, straight, male, depending on the hierarchy in place) think 'the fight of this or that group is inconvenient for me, the person who benefits from the systems society currently has in place'.
I wanted to buy NWN2 Complete but had missed, but managed to purchase Beyond Good and Evil and Jade Empire (own on steam too, but doesn't work on win7 in spite of gog.com verison, moreover this version contains of hungarian subtitles), and got an I have no Mouth and I must scream key.

Thank you gog.com for these insane days!:) I hope these will return soon (with some changed rules):).

I am stll in the process of replaying it, never finished 4 or 5. but i want to do it in the right order, so started from the first.
But ugh the second part with all the walking around in those streets, so annoying.

Cardian: I even remember a time where some lady called out for all the girls and got... one reply and that one was a male only talking about the fact that there was no reply. Of course, there are more than one female in here but I dare think it's safe to assume that the majority is male and that nobody is trying to offend anyone when they say "Hey guys." or something. And if someone, indeed, IS offended by that... well, I roll my eyes at people that are always and all too easily offended by everything.

BlueLemon: There was stuff before that.. This thread has been going for days.. As I mentioned in my post: there are some women I know who won't admit to what gender they are, or some don't feel like either, or some feel like they are both.. It wasn't just about being called 'guys', that wasn't what I wrote in my post, it wasn't my point... How do some people ignore an entire post?
If they feel like both or neither a lot of the time they're not a 'woman'. Women're female, or mostly female. If you're fluid or indeterminate, you're not a woman. What you might want to say is female, or just bio-female if you want to be really sure people know you mean sex and not gender. The whole sex=gender thing ingrained in society has you know, got into the language so extricating the two is difficult.
I should never have said anything. Let's talk about the promo, or games, or something.

I think GOG outdid themselves once again. That last summer sale was pretty big though.

I love HQ2 best of all, but that was one of the few Sierra games we actually didn't "own" but had copied. So we had to make do with a hand-drawn map of our own. I'm hoping that the GOG version will relieve me of guilt and of map-making ;)

I was specifically responding to the comment "It's not PC at all. It's just not ignoring half the population." in defense of the comment "Extra note: Sometimes I've read people calling everyone guys, or chaps, Sir (when they don't know their gender) assuming that everyone is male here. I've +1'd the people who tend to include everyone, or write ladies and gentlemen, guys and gals... "

If everyone had agreed that using "guys" to describe everyone was "acceptable" then there wouldn't have been a politically correct standard being applied in these comments here.

Schemilix: I don't recall that. I just remmeber Xenxander weirdly saying, 'okay all you men... or ladies... but there are no ladies'. Like wat. There's bound to be some women. I for one am bio-female, much to my distaste.

Then again I fit the stereotype of gamers don't dress properly. As long as it's washed and not my pyjamas I'll probably wear it.

Faenwulf: Wait, did I catch that right? You're a girl?! That changes like...well, nothing I guess?

Really, that guy/girl talk is kind of overdone. :x
I'm not a girl.

Also ref previous post where someone of the default doesn't necessarily get a right to complain when the minority want a voice.

Sadly, the computer I had was incapable of playing any of the others as it didn't have a Hard Drive and by the time I got a computer with a Hard Drive, they were no longer available.

That's why my experience with the Quest games stops around 3 or 4 for most of them.
