Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

I guess missing out on Thief II and Conquistador was a blessing in disguise. It left me with enough money to buy the Deponia promo.

skeletonbow: I am mostly a keyboard/mouse player, but I do have a Logitech cordless Rumblepad 2 here that such games might work well with, and if not I'll just use kbd/mouse. I've got a Logitech G600 so lots of buttons to assign to shit, makes games old and new shine. ;o)
avatar
mkess: Same goes for me. I have even a cyborg Joystick, too. Everytime the right tool for playing different games. I have the PSX2 emulator, and play old PS2 games on my PC, using a cyborg rumble pad.
For joystick stuff I've got a Saitek X52-Pro flight stick and throttle system, and the addon rudders for flight sims. It's pretty awesome for any flight type games both new and ancient. Same level of ultra-programmability and emulation in their software as well. That and a NaturalPoint TrackIR Pro for flight sims, racing sims and a few FPS games like ArmA. I'm going to pick up a Logitech G27 racing wheel sometime soon too and get into that more. Lots of cool hardware out there! :)
Well, it's finally over.

Thanks to the GOG-team for a crazy (but good) week!

jamotide: What, why? This is like the publicity jackpot for them. Nobody knew this game last week.

GabiMoro: Yes, nobody says Jack Keane 2 is a bad game, I haven't played it. It was just a little too expensive and the discount wasn't so big compared to the other GOG games.

Nordic Games post was epic:
As on Jack Keane 2: Great to see that one of our products published on GOG.com, is now the most famous title here. You have to understand that it is important for us to get our customers some hours of sleep - 4 hours of sleep per day is the absolute minimum. We are taking care of our fans! Hope you took that chance! :-)

Have a great day
Your Nordic Games team

"Infamous" should be there instead of famous :P

The last time i used a joystick on the PC was the Amiga when playing Street Fighter II. Haven't used one since. Then again, most of the games i play doesn't require it. ;)
Well, this was a fun week. I am proud to have come out of lurking and to have seen this great community building experiment.

Thank you.

BlueLemon: Thank you! Feel a lot better now, someone was taking real offense to what I wrote, got hung up on one part, and let slip what I was really intending. You are awesome! +100 if I could!! :D It was more about people writing in threads that no women were here, or acting like there were only het men playing games, and some other stereotypes. For the most part, and I really do mean most, gog has been a great community!!! I didn't mean to make it look like I was getting at everyone on here, or making it seem like it wasn't. I just wanted to point it out to a very very few amount and they chose how they wanted to take it, lol.

LAU00050: Oh no, the problem is when people do start believing the lies horrible individuals can feed. Thanks for the vote of confidence, it does take courage to go out and tell a group what they are doing is wrong, even if they are unaware of it (which you've gone out and done). This, and the hardcore/casual gaming debate seems to be played at nonsensical end, but it's because change does need to happen. The Penny Arcade Expo feud didn't occur for no reason.

Anyway, enjoy your games from the sale, and get some sleep :)
I agree. This is still an issue in some places, and I think you were very polite in asking everyone to consider that. Enjoy your games! I too have had a great time here, and I hope there will be more sales like this.
I knew I wanted and bought:
Leisure Suit Larry: Greatest Hits and Misses
Hotline MiamI

I didn't know I wanted and somehow wound up buying:
Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete
Reus
Theme Hospital (2 copies)
Duke Nukem 3d
Whoa!

Just woke up and realized I missed the ending of the sale! :-(

But just as awesome the thread is still continuing!

You guys are the best!

Edit: I made the mistake of picking up reading the forum where I left off instead of jumping to the most current page at the time. I would have been just in time to catch the last two posts of the count-down. Oh well. At least I can say I was physically present.

Playing fighting games with a joystick was almost impossible, remember playing the demo of Body Blows with a joystick and that was quite a challenge. To play the old classics you really need a joystick even though many can be played with a mouse and keyboard (or a controller for the less advanced ones, I wouldn´t recommend a controller for a game like Falcon 4 for example).

This makes me think of another game that, yet again needs to be on GoG, Project-X=).

BlueLemon: I'm off too, delayed in heading off. I feel like a couple people misread my post. It wasn't an attack on everyone, or for people using 'guys'. Some people were assuming that only men were on the threads, and some others things. I think this community is great, and I wouldn't want to cause upset. When I wrote my post, it was just to give some understanding, it wasn't about 'being offended', but I feel like some have got offended or upset from my post.. Strange that.. I enjoyed the sale and this thread. Hope everyone has a good day or evening!! :)
I think people tend to presume that folks on gaming forums like this are male unless the there are obvious signs like a username like "Jane" or an obvious female avatar.

That means that for users like myself, who use the ambiguous names like "Starchild", we are frequently presumed to be male, and I am neither male nor a child ;)

It doesn't bother me at all but there are plenty of women around who game but don't feel inclined to announce there gender with every comment :)
I still have a hope I will find Thief 3 or Assassin's Creed: DC at least for trade of some sort, sorry for reposting this a bit too many times, just the thread is as vast as it could be :/ If you have those titles (or Theme Hospital/D&D titles), please message me and we'll see if we can work something out!

As long as I get to retain my sleep next time then yes, I agree! Enjoy your games, and I'll make an extra effort to return to the forums and see some old faces. I got suckered into the comps GoG holds, and now I think it's the community that makes GoG who it is. Don't mess this up Good Old Games, other websites would kill for customers like this. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon!

Schemilix: I think it's a natural assumption since most people in this community ARE male. I did get irritated when someone went 'well of course you're all guys'. In that context guys means 'males'. Which is very limiting and ridiculous. People with a uterus do hang around here, thanks.

Tbh the only blatant sexism I've seen is that one troll and calling me stupid for getting offended at the notion that Leisure Suit Larry exists and still sells.
avatar
Cardian: I even remember a time where some lady called out for all the girls and got... one reply and that one was a male only talking about the fact that there was no reply. Of course, there are more than one female in here but I dare think it's safe to assume that the majority is male and that nobody is trying to offend anyone when they say "Hey guys." or something. And if someone, indeed, IS offended by that... well, I roll my eyes at people that are always and all too easily offended by everything.
I know I'm late catching up, but I remember that post. Or one just like it. I didn't feel comfortable answering it - something in the way it was phrased, or just the boldness of it. And/or because I thought the call out came from a guy...
