Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Khalaq: meh... I was looking for something a bit more exact, but I guess nobody timed it.

Jade Empire sold 900 copies in four minutes.
Thief Gold did 600 copies in three minutes.
avatar
Kaitu: It was 600 copies. I didn't time it but it was somewhere around 6-8 Thieves give or take. (See my previous post.) :-)
I remember Jade Empire being 900 copies in the third round. I had to refresh the page again to get the beginning count (it went by so fast), then I made a typo (800) and had to correct it. We can scroll all the way back through the thread to find the announcements for it, if you'd like.

As for the timings, I was using a regular clock with a second hand rather than a stopwatch. Times were rounded to the nearest half-minute.

You say that Thief 2 sold 600 copies in about 7 minutes? I guess we'll have to go with that as our best estimate.

AndyDivine79: Several years ago, I purchased Kings Bounty Dragon Bone Staff off Ebay. I played the hell out of King's Bounty on Genesis. When the game arrived I tried to play it but my ps2 would not read it. Tried another game, no luck. Put King's Bounty in a second time. Still nothing. I pcked up my ps2 and shook it (cause that always seems to work) and ended up dropping it. The ps2 was toast but the worst part was the game ended up cracked. I felt like a tool. :)
Well, that's quite a story. Had no idea King's Bounty was on Genesis... Is the series that old?

For the people that soldiered to the very end have an Icewind Dale on me, we all deserve a bit of love at this point . Take it if you'll play it :)

Had a blast on this thread.
If anyone would like to trade his Thief 2 for Anodyne, it would be great.

kcrabb: 12 games 25 bucks! my kind of sale!
avatar
AndyDivine79: That is what I came up with too. Then I caved and bought Conquistador, Thief II, and will more than likely pick up Psychonauts. Made out like a bandit!
Oh definitely! If you havent played psychonauts your in for a treat! One of my top 5 games of all time!
Last freebie for anyone that wants it: Gotham City Impostors: Professional Kit (Steam).

If anyone happens to have a spare copy of Thief 2, it'd be much appreciated.

Had to step away from the computer for a few minutes and unfortunately missed it, I'd offer a trade, but have already given away everything else I had this evening.

The original is circa 1990, starting with King's Bounty: The Legend it's from a new developer.

mantarrochen: Spellforce 1 is a mixture between RPG and basebuilding strategy. You first enter an area with your hero whom you can level up and fully equip - and start exploring the map. Once you found a suitable place you start building a base where the buildings can vary between versions of different races. All the while you defend your settlement with your hero and army until you feel ready to take on the mission objective.

It is a good game. I just bought it here although I already have it on Steam. The presentation is quite lovely - at times I find it quite amusing to forfeit the all-encompassing view from above and just zoom in to my hero while having my army set on follow. Its great. :D
avatar
Kaitu: So it's kind of a Warcraft/D&D hybrid?
Yes, you can say that. It is a good characterisation. Some of the areas you unlock (background is a world shattered into island connected by portals) are big cities where a little more adventury stuff is going on and from time to time you want to return to old areas but other than that it is Warcraft with RPGing your hero and the possibility to switch to 3rd person perspective :D

If nobody wants your copy of IWD, I can try to find a good home for it. I already own it, but I know that others probably missed it.
