Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Deva: I wonder how well the PC + Mac Mix Pack sale did... it ends in about 10 minutes! :)
avatar
Fellin: I bought 8 games off of that, so I'm happy with it. Probably not that bad. Most of the games weren't on the other sale as far as I know.
I had planned on buying a couple, but thought that buying 18 from this Insomnia sale was probably enough for now... thinking about it now, I wish I did buy the ones I wanted, but there's only 3 minutes left, and I seriously doubt I'd play them any time soon, anyway... too much backlog! There will be other sales...

AndyDivine79: But......I must buy more games.....I must buy more games. :) I'll give it a try. Seems like most people prefer II.

Minmataro: Dude... Do yourself a favor and practice playing shooters with a mouse and keyboard. after a couple days you will never, ever want to use a controller for FPS again. Seriously.
I would never ever play any shooter without mouse. Why should I punish myself, and play with one hand bound to my back -- metaphoricaly speaking. You need auto-aim, if you play with controllers.

Otherwise the mediocre PC-Shooterplayer will bust the best konsoleplayers. I can set headshoots faster, than you would believe it, with using a mouse. Changing weapons is a breeze with keyboard, too ;)

That is the reason, why these playergroups will seldom play in multiplayergames together. As example in Defiance I was from the beginning in the top ten list during arc raids, despite the fact, that I was a total newbie. A because of critical hits I made.
It's about selecting the right peripheral for the job. I wouldn't play a racing game with a mouse, and I wouldn't play an FPS with a controller.

They're not exactly interchangeable, and I don't understand when someone says they "prefer" to use a controller for a task that K&M is better suited to.
100 to go.

So, since it's so cold and dark outside, why not warm things up a little with %ara ?roft?

CharlesGrey: Eh, the whole controller VS. keyboard & mouse war is bullshit. I use both, depending on the game and whatever I'm in the mood for, and either have their advantages. If nothing else, gamepads tend to be easier on your wrists, if you play for a long time or generally spend a lot of time working on the computer. That said, if you have a decent "gaming" mouse and/or keyboard, that could make quite a difference.

keef0723: This ^.

I mostly use a controller if i can, because i get a hunch when using the K&M. (only got into PC gaming 3 years ago, compared to 20+ of consoles.
Yeah, I also use both. I lean more toward the controller when I can (dont have to stretch for anything, ctrl 1-9 etc.) especially for platformers. I DO however use a mouse and keyboard for most shooters (playing counterstrike with a controller is wrong and you should feel wrong if you do it *wink)

Similar story for me -- I also grew up playing console games, so I don't have any aversion towards controllers. If anything, I prefer them, since they're specifically designed for controlling video games, unlike standard keyboards. But for some genres controls via mouse cursor really do work best.
Did pretty well in this sale. Wasn't able to get any freebies, but I got several games I'd been wanting for a while, and several games that I'd never heard of before that looked awesome. Here's what I ended up getting:

Master of Magic
Fez
Primordia
Neverwinter Nights
Tales of Monkey Island
King of Dragon Pass

Why I'm still watching this sale is questionable... but I did pick up King of Dragon Pass (never heard of it before) in this final round after I had gotten or missed all of the games I wanted. The only game in the sale that I was hoping to get but missed out on was Siberia, but I bet that'll be back on sale. Maybe I'll even get a freebie at the end haha.

As for my wife, she's not too hard to convince as long as the game is something we can play together :P . Yes, we play single player games together (if they're not super action-y, they're pretty fun to switch off having one person control and the other tell the controller what to do :P).

CorranHorn: I own a Logitech controller, can´t remember the name of the program I used for Unreal 2004 demo but it worked without any problem.

BHTrellis: Is it Xpadder?
No, I think it´s this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqLgdvwBD-s

I don't play FPS shooters at all. Except for Farcry 3...

10 copies sold in 5 Minutes. It's too slow, I can't wait another 1 or 2 hour(s).
bye for now!

skeletonbow: I am mostly a keyboard/mouse player, but I do have a Logitech cordless Rumblepad 2 here that such games might work well with, and if not I'll just use kbd/mouse. I've got a Logitech G600 so lots of buttons to assign to shit, makes games old and new shine. ;o)
Same goes for me. I have even a cyborg Joystick, too. Everytime the right tool for playing different games. I have the PSX2 emulator, and play old PS2 games on my PC, using a cyborg rumble pad.

Honestly, even though it's slow, I think it's selling fairly well all things considered.
