Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

wanderlust76: Wow you guys weren't kidding I just googled that Rogue game...it's so old even I don't remember it. We're talkin' pre Atari 2600 days here.
avatar
Khalaq: Aye. Did you think the ATARI 2600 VCS was the first console (much less the origin of video games)?
Nah just never heard of Rogue back in the day. I played some of the old C64 and Atari computer stuff though.
heh at this rate "Mac Mix Max Pack" promo will end before DRM-Free Fall Insomnia sale does there is only 2 hours and 34 mins left.. and there is still 118 copies of Sword of the stars: the Jack Kaene 2

BTCentral: GOG is a fantastic community and some people's kindness I've seen here during the sale has been amazing, including towards myself.

As such, I'd like to give a little something back.

Note: I have a few things coming up, each redeemable on Steam.
Limit is 1 code per person, so chose wisely if it's something you wanted or not!

First up is Mortal Kombat Kollection.

To snag this, simply be the first to answer the following:
I am the only mammal able to fly, what am I?
Isn't that a Bat?
Just wanted to say how great you guys are here on GOG. With the good company and the free games being gifted it really makes up for missing some games I was hoping to grab. I wasn't going to use GOG today since I was done with the sale.... and I ended up spending the night here again haha. Keaned me out of my night again!

starrarte: Aw man, according to the list Witcher 2 was the first thing that came up after I went to sleep this morning? x.x What luck. I didn't manage to buy any of the games I intended to get in the sale, though I made an alarming number of impulse purchases so I guess GOG wins this round.

Well since I'm not really hanging on for anything else, anyone want to trade? I'm looking for Witcher 2, System Shock 2, and Beyond Good and Evil. I've got gift codes for Fez, NWN Diamond, Theme Hospital, and Thief 3, and dupe Steam keys for Bastion, FTL, and LIMBO.

...And as long as I'm finally delurking can I just say that GOG has to be the most impressively friendly internet community I've ever encountered? :D
I don't think I have anything you want that you mentioned there, but you can check my WANT/HAVE List anyways....

CalicoPup: Rogue is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very old game.

As far as computer games go, anyway.

WeR138: I'm not exactly young myself, and I was wondering about this Rogue game, why I hadn't heard of it, and what makes a game rogue-like.
/sobs over being a 20-something who has played Rogue.

We used to do timed runs of Adventure on the 2600. Too bad I don't have a working system or the family could still enjoy it. They really knew how to make games, back then....
Soul Reaver
Thief 3
Thief 2
Thief Gold
Miasmata
Postal 2 Complete
Planescape Torment
Resonance
Wing Commander iV
Tales from monkey Island
Fez
Psychonauts
Chronicles of Riddick
Total Annihilation
Duke Nukem 3D

I'm new at this so i went a little crazy, only regret is witcher 2, I was at work at the time....

TwistedFate: Atari 2600 released in 1977, so not quite. I had one, BTW
Oh hmm good point I forgot the 2600 was that old..a lot of people didn't have one until the 80's though.
The last two I'm after are Psychonauts and Thief 2, having to resist the urge to get Nauts for $4 in the weekend sale and Thief 2 for $6 in the series discount (I got Gold and 3 earlier).

How long is the general estimate until the next game comes up?

In a perfect world for me, Thief 2 would come up next, because it would go quick, and then Nauts, and then I'd be done! :D

Khalaq: I find it quite tricky to find games for my 7 year-old niece. On the one hand, she's seven. On the other hand, she can play though an entire campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 by herself. (On Easy setting, of course.)

Anyway, I was trying to think of some of the GOG games I have that she might be interested in. Theme Hospital might be a bit too much for her, but perhaps when she's older? Anyone have any recommendations for her from the GOG library? Games she has tried that seemed to be OK for her are:

Ghost Master
Worms Armageddon
King's Quest (didn't hold interest that long, maybe due to the interface)
Costume Quest (might try this one, again, now that she's a bit older)
Torchlight

PS. (She waaaaay past Manhole. She got bored of that in like one minute. Creatures was also a fail.)
For a 7 year old girl? Maybe one of the Roller Coaster Tycoon games (probably the third one), Wallace & Gromit from Telltale.

peanutsticks: That Star Trek 25th Anniversary game looks like fun.
avatar
zlep: It was! Point-and-click adventure meets spaceship simulator. The best part was that the game was divided into multiple "episodes", and they really nailed the sort of stories that populated the original series. Klingons, Mudd, weird alien technology. :-) My poor little floppies missed out, but I hear the CD version also had all the voice work done by the actual actors too.
I heard my name.

Thruggsen: I guess since I'm 10 years older than Rogue that makes me....
Perfect to be on a site that specialises in "Good Old Games". :-)

Hmm... I didn't think of Wallace & Grommit.... I'll have to look for that one.
So I went to bed then it was Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain.

Can any kind soul tell me what I missed during that period of slumber?
