Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Khalaq: I find it quite tricky to find games for my 7 year-old niece. On the one hand, she's seven. On the other hand, she can play though an entire campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 by herself. (On Easy setting, of course.)

Anyway, I was trying to think of some of the GOG games I have that she might be interested in. Theme Hospital might be a bit too much for her, but perhaps when she's older? Anyone have any recommendations for her from the GOG library? Games she has tried that seemed to be OK for her are:

Ghost Master
Worms Armageddon
King's Quest (didn't hold interest that long, maybe due to the interface)
Costume Quest (might try this one, again, now that she's a bit older)
Torchlight

PS. (She waaaaay past Manhole. She got bored of that in like one minute. Creatures was also a fail.)
If she is into simulation, the Rollercoaster Tycoon games *could* be fun with some hand-holding until she got situated (situated here being that she can build whatever kind of coaster she wants, not that she is taught the more complicated aspects of the game. She can be as exposed to as much depth as you deem necessary.). Otherwise I would say Costume Quest as you listed above. Played that one just this past October since it was Halloween month and it is a fun little kiddie game.

wanderlust76: Wow you guys weren't kidding I just googled that Rogue game...it's so old even I don't remember it. We're talkin' pre Atari 2600 days here.
I can't even remember which version I played, it was one of the Angband / Moria games. One line I do remember:

"The idiot drools on you"

CalicoPup: Rogue is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very old game.

As far as computer games go, anyway.

WeR138: I'm not exactly young myself, and I was wondering about this Rogue game, why I hadn't heard of it, and what makes a game rogue-like.

So my SUPER SPECIAL LIST from the sale:
Alpha Centauri
Beyond Good and Evil
Heroes of Might and Magic III
King of Dragon Pass
Might and Magic 6 pack
NWN 1 Diamond
NWN 2 Complete (Funny story, the only reason I came to this sale was for this game. My discs got messed up and I couldn't install it, so I bought it again.)
Space Colony HD
Syberia
System Shock 2
Wing Commander 4

My initial budget for the sale was $10... I went over it by a fair amount.

Games I wish I would have had the budget for:
Jade Empire
Sword of the Stars: The Pit

All in all a really fun sale, the people in the thread were amazing and do hope GoG does this kind of sale again. And GoG, don't listen to the nay sayers, keep it exactly the same. Those long sales were sleepy time.

peanutsticks: That Star Trek 25th Anniversary game looks like fun.

zlep: It was! Point-and-click adventure meets spaceship simulator. The best part was that the game was divided into multiple "episodes", and they really nailed the sort of stories that populated the original series. Klingons, Mudd, weird alien technology. :-) My poor little floppies missed out, but I hear the CD version also had all the voice work done by the actual actors too.
Yup i have the CD version with the original actors voicing the characters.Wonderful.Although this probably creates a huge copyright problem for a re-release.Apparently the Gabriel Knight Redux which is even also developed by Jane Jensen will not be able to use the original voice recordings with Curry and all. They will ahve to recreate that from scratch.

BTCentral: GOG is a fantastic community and some people's kindness I've seen here during the sale has been amazing, including towards myself.

As such, I'd like to give a little something back.

Note: I have a few things coming up, each redeemable on Steam.
Limit is 1 code per person, so chose wisely if it's something you wanted or not!

First up is Mortal Kombat Kollection.

Correct! PM incoming.

undeadcow: Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a really fun roguelike, I was impressed by it and am surprised that people would be unwilling to spend $2.09 on it. The Pit is a steal at that price.
I do wonder if people are being put off by feeling they'd need to buy the DLC too. There are 2 DLCs now, aren't there? That sort of thing can add question marks to what would otherwise be an easy impulse purchase...

Personally, I've already bought it, so the only things I need are the DLC. :-)

Alien8n: Right guys, it's been a blast, I'll definitely be back :)

Night :)
You're leaving now! Now!! At this pivotal point! We're mid-Keaning here...!

Aw man, according to the list Witcher 2 was the first thing that came up after I went to sleep this morning? x.x What luck. I didn't manage to buy any of the games I intended to get in the sale, though I made an alarming number of impulse purchases so I guess GOG wins this round.

Well since I'm not really hanging on for anything else, anyone want to trade? I'm looking for Witcher 2, System Shock 2, and Beyond Good and Evil. I've got gift codes for Fez, NWN Diamond, Theme Hospital, and Thief 3, and dupe Steam keys for Bastion, FTL, and LIMBO.

...And as long as I'm finally delurking can I just say that GOG has to be the most impressively friendly internet community I've ever encountered? :D

Khalaq: I'm fading fast, guys. I was trying to stay awake to see what comes after The Pit, but I don't think I have it in me.
I went into a coma for 27 hours when Omerta appeared. I feel your pain.
