Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Khalaq: I find it quite tricky to find games for my 7 year-old niece. On the one hand, she's seven. On the other hand, she can play though an entire campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 by herself. (On Easy setting, of course.)

Anyway, I was trying to think of some of the GOG games I have that she might be interested in. Theme Hospital might be a bit too much for her, but perhaps when she's older? Anyone have any recommendations for her from the GOG library?

PS. (She waaaaay past Manhole. She got bored of that in like one minute.)

jackster79: What kind of games does she tend to prefer? The twitch kind or the cerebal kind? Any particular genre?
I've been editing my previous post. Check there for more details.
Almost their...hoping this is done in the 3-4 hours

Thruggsen: I guess since I'm 10 years older than Rogue that makes me....

JustSayin: Older with an extra very. ;)
Guess that applies to me too. Oi!

Well- let's assume an "old" game is 10 years old. There are 7 verys, and with Rogue being released in 1980-
You are very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very old :D

undeadcow: Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a really fun roguelike, I was impressed by it and am surprised that people would be unwilling to spend $2.09 on it. The Pit is a steal at that price.

wanderlust76: What the %&^$ is a roguelike?!?! I never heard of that type of game.
You should definitely try the genre with SOTS: The Pit, roguelikes are like randomized streamlined role playing games that emphasize exploration and survival against difficult enemies and/or environmental hazards. Some have complicated systems requiring you find food to last longer, others (like The Pit) give you limited items needed to savage to build better gear or find ammo. There are hidden puzzle components that reward multiple plays. Roguelikes usually have an ending but there's also a high score component - how far can you get in a playthrough. They're continuous but have an underlying turn based mechanic. Check it out.

Wow you guys weren't kidding I just googled that Rogue game...it's so old even I don't remember it. We're talkin' pre Atari 2600 days here.

Ghost Master
Worms Armageddon
King's Quest (didn't hold interest that long, maybe due to the interface)
Costume Quest (might try this one, again, now that she's a bit older)
Torchlight

PS. (She waaaaay past Manhole. She got bored of that in like one minute.)
Does she 'get' adventure games yet? If so, Tales of Monkey Island might be a good one. Even if she doesn't get any of the references, it's still very kid-friendly.
Since a previous Populous was taken I kindly present:

Only slightly older than me.

As far as computer games go, anyway.

I'm not exactly young myself, and I was wondering about this Rogue game, why I hadn't heard of it, and what makes a game rogue-like.

I think the problem with SotS:TP is that there's no DLC, which are currently collectively priced 4 times higher than the base game.

Aye. Did you think the ATARI 2600 VCS was the first console (much less the origin of video games)?

The_Blog: The Jedi Knight games were AWESOME. A Shame I only played Outcast and Jedi Knight.

CorranHorn: Dark Forces is a must, the mod is also a must if you are used to more modern games. Another game that needs to be on GoG=).
Sadly in Germany it's forbiden to sale. And I was to lazy to import it or buy it from Steam. GOG would be perfect.

Atari 2600 released in 1977, so not quite. I had one, BTW
