Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

undeadcow: Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a really fun roguelike, I was impressed by it and am surprised that people would be unwilling to spend $2.09 on it. The Pit is a steal at that price.

wanderlust76: What the %&^$ is a roguelike?!?! I never heard of that type of game.
Rougelike (ugh) is a...genre about games that are similar to an old game called Rouge. They all have some of same concepts as Rouge had. One life, hard as hell, etc.

MasterofClassics: I actually just play it on PS2 but I always wanted to play the Int. Zodiak job system version on an emulator, I'll look up the patch if I do.
avatar
Schemilix: Oh no I mean FFT - the PSP got retranslated in the remake, the PSX version is a mess. FFXII's translation is great. But yeah Int. Zodiac you need an English patch to play.
Ah that makes sense.

CalicoPup: Rogue is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very old game.
I guess since I'm 10 years older than Rogue that makes me....

Khalaq: I find it quite tricky to find games for my 7 year-old niece. On the one hand, she's seven. On the other hand, she can play though an entire campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 by herself. (On Easy setting, of course.)

Anyway, I was trying to think of some of the GOG games I have that she might be interested in. Theme Hospital might be a bit too much for her, but perhaps when she's older? Anyone have any recommendations for her from the GOG library?

PS. (She waaaaay past Manhole. She got bored of that in like one minute.)
I actually bought Theme Hospital and gifted to my preteen granddaughters , with instructions to Mom and Dad , that they should help the girls play through as a family. Best idea I could come up with. I'll also be watching for some good replies.

What kind of games does she tend to prefer? The twitch kind or the cerebal kind? Any particular genre?
I feel pretty lucky. I got most of what I wanted- missed out on Thief 3, and BG1, but got the rest, plus a few whim purchases.
I want to write Iron Maiden parody lyrics about the thread, but there's no time for that. Make your own joke about page 666 :)

Roguelikes have been around for quite some time. Wikipedia has a decent summary:

Ha! I didn't type fast enough and someone else posted the Wikipedia link before I did. Anyway, The Pit is easily worth $2, if you like this kind of game.

In general, not for the faint of heart, but some more modern ones make concessions to ease the entry into the genre. Much to the displeasure of die hard fans of the genre.

dsross: Yeah it's a bit weird gifting Steam versions to the GOG crowd but whatever. :D

JoseWisemang: I have a bunch of steam keys and such I don't want/need, why not help the people suffering while the sale is dead

Not dead... Keaning. There *is* a difference. Not a visible one, mind you...

The_Blog: The Jedi Knight games were AWESOME. A Shame I only played Outcast and Jedi Knight.
Dark Forces is a must, the mod is also a must if you are used to more modern games. Another game that needs to be on GoG=).
