Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Wheres the freak Spellforce Platinum?

ALH: Current sale is the Pits!
You'd call that Keanes, really. That word fits anywhere!

DukeDuvel: 'Einstein would turn over in his grave, God does play dice... and what's worse... the dice are loaded!'

Kaitu: One of the best quotes from the game!
Got my curiosity piqued: Which game is that?

Knofbath: GoG runs them on a first-come, first-serve basis, even with 2 second polling there's little chance for us overseas people to see and react in time to beat the people who are closer.
I got two freebies, although in the case of the second one it only showed up on my shelf an hour ago. Five days late. And I never got an email receipt. <_>

Alien8n: Either there's massive scripting going on (and we know some people were doing that)
No we don't. All we know is, that it is possible to modify the way the browser displays the fade out effects, which gives you zero advantage.
Oh and I know I got 9 freebies just by clicking once after expiry, I was here maybe 1/5th of the time of the sale.
Whenever I read Keane in here the bald head of Kane from the Command and Conquer series comes to my mind.

Revenile: Funny tidbit about FFX, it's actually a distant prequel to FF7.

Chandoraa: If He intended it to be, then it most certainly is. Otherwise, I'm respectfully calling bullshit on your statement ;).
It's more strongly hinted at than official:
From Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega:

“Shinra is a boy who supports the Gullwings, the group which the main protagonist, Yuna, belongs to. He carries a name that gives him an association to the Shin-Ra Company, and he is researching a method that could utilize the energy of "the life force that flows through our planet." The results of this cannot be seen in FFX-2, but maybe one day his descendants will establish a "company that supplies the energy of the planet"?”

In the Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania, Kazushige Nojima said the following:
“After quitting the Gullwings, Shinra received enormous financial support from Rin, and began trying to use Vegnagun to siphon Mako Energy from the Farplane. But, he is unable to complete the system for utilizing this energy in his generation, and in the future, when traveling to distant planets becomes possible, the Shin-Ra Company is founded on another world, or something like that....... That would happen about 1000 years after this story, I think.”

zlep: Of course, I daresay some people have won multiples, and that there probably are unfair factors at play somewhere, but it seems some of the reported wins may be nothing but trolling...
*raise pitchfork* burn the trollllll!

jackster79: Adding to what Minmataro said, you need the first DLC (MindGames) to play with a 360 controller. I have played with and without, and for me I find it much more enjoyable to use a 360 controller. This is my personal preference, but wanted to mention it just in case it matters to those interested as well.
avatar
justanoldgamer: You don't need a DLC to use a XBOX controller, the base game was patched for it.
My bad then. My apologies for misleading anyone then. I must have got it before that happened then, and ceased playing it after the patch came out.

Haha, consider yourself super-lucky then. xD

Alien8n: It's the great "zero freebie" debate. I use statistics a lot in my work and believe me it should not be possible to score more than one freebie. Well, it's possible, but so improbable that you'd better buy a lottery ticket because the odds are stupidly low.
avatar
zlep: In another thread (on that topic) The Enigmatic T suggested that not everyone who's said they'd scored multiples actually *has*. Apparently GOG has been checking for accounts winning a surprising amount of freebies to ensure that the system isn't being abused by scripts. The user TET checked had claimed in the forums to have won tonnes, but actually hadn't won any. He also said GOG has no evidence of scripts in use, but is looking into it.

Of course, I daresay some people have won multiples, and that there probably are unfair factors at play somewhere, but it seems some of the reported wins may be nothing but trolling...
Good stuff. Glad they looked into it

JustSayin: I bought The Pit. I mean, it was just looking at me, daring me to buy it, taunting even. I for one don't take that to well. I guess we know who's running this show...wait a minute.
Did you buy Keane 2 :p It was probably staring at you a bit longer ;)
avatar
Alien8n: Even at a 10% chance of scoring a freebie that means the odds of getting 15 are 1:10e15 I mean seriously that's like winning the lottery jackpot 2 weeks in a row. The odds are closer to 0.01-0.1% so you can see there's something seriously wrong with the way the freebies are being won. Either there's massive scripting going on (and we know some people were doing that) or some other factor is in play to skew the probability of winning to nearly 100% for some people.

Knofbath: GoG runs them on a first-come, first-serve basis, even with 2 second polling there's little chance for us overseas people to see and react in time to beat the people who are closer.
Exactly my point, for anyone to score multiple copies there must be some other factor that gives then an unfair advantage. It could simply be their location, and that could be enough to win it for them, but factor in location and a little web coding experience and you have an instant no lose scenario. Personally I think they should ditch first come first served and have a "click pot". The free button is active for 10 seconds, for that 10 seconds if you click on it your click goes in a pot, but only one click so anyone scripting gains zero advantage. After the 10 seconds are up it picks the winners from the pot at random and emails the lucky people their code to either redeem or share as they see fit. Anyone receiving multiple freebies are then genuinely lucky.

Gog has servers everywhere, there is no regional advantage.
334 copies of The Pit left

This is going to be a loong wait.
