Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

JoseWisemang: Weird... i did this and got between 10-15ms from the US..
avatar
Knofbath: That's the web caching, try secure.gog.com.
ahhhhh that makes more sense. Score a proper 130ms average now.
avatar
mudd1: Which OS?
avatar
smoother: Windows 7 (64bit)
Then I have no clue. Every other OS and you could just have entered "ping IP-address" on the console. I think in Windows it used to be just that, too, only in that cmd.exe thing. I think they don't have that anymore, though? There's probably some tiny GUI thingy that you can download for free that does the same.

Avg: 358ms for me.

How does that translate? Slow?
avatar
KMJX: Okay peoples.
I have one spare copy

Neverwinter Nights : Diamond Edition

to give out. There is a problem though:

- I don't want to put it up for ninja grabs
- My imagination right now is suffering from tiredness, so I have no idea what to do about the giveaway
- it has to be in this thread, it Keane't be any other way.

Any ideas?
You can share it with me - will be played often :>

mudd1: I'm afraid so :/ Like, *really* fast.

Xiko91: I was just curious. I already have it, retail (in a metal box that was pretty but it's getting really rusty).
It rusts? *turns on the dehumidifier*

smoother: how do I ping a website? (sorry I'm a total noob ;)
You could have an option in your router.
The classic system, under winxp is
Start->Run
cmd
ping google.com

or, for more details :
tracert google.com
Reus looks fun. Think it will come on sale at the end of the year?

Chandoraa: - Although FFXI was pretty decent (I could only see a little part of the storyline before getting tired of the grinding), FFX was the last true FF,
avatar
MaximumBunny: I'd like to think that was FFXII. FFX didn't even have a world map, just plot points. ^^
By the time FFXII came out, I had lost all respect for the dead husk of a company Square Enix had become, so I don't know (and will never know) if it was any good. Let's all observe a minute of silence for the late Squaresoft, and forever hold a grudge on its murderer, the Calamity from the Skies, otherwise known as Enix.
Hello, Sir or Madame! Did you recently purchase a copy of Septerra Core in some sleep deprived haze and INSTANTLY regret it? Do you wish you could remove it from your account forever and never have to look at it again? Would you be willing to just THROW it away into a greedy trash can and not receive anything back other than safety from a game that you despise?

Well, Madame or Sir, am I the trash can for YOU! Just throw that pesky Septerra Core at me and you'll never have to worry about it again! Heck, I'll even THANK you for it! Can you imagine that? A talking trash can? What a world we live in today where trash cans play video games and speak politely!

Win 7 has ping available....
Anyone have the list of what is left?
Did I miss "I have no mouth and I must scream"?

Damn, I wanted to buy 2-3 games top, ended up with:

Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon (never played it, LOVE IT!)
Tropico 3
Startopia
Jade Empire
Thief Gold
System Shock 2
Tales of Monkey Island
Icewind Dale

What a crazy couple of days. I was studying the whole weekend, had lectures and then coming back home just to do the homeworks while watching the sale and reading the forum (not participating though, the flow of the conversasion in this topic is beyond me :D). I must say: only a good site can change price drop into community-bonding happening. You GOG-ers - both site stuff and users alike - are awesome and thanks for keeping things so interesting and fun!
avatar
jjsimp: Not completely true. I got Aquanox 2 free during the sale.
avatar
Knofbath: I said "most". Time of day and how many people were watching the sale figures into it as well.
There are other factors as well but I think geographic location plays a huge part in your chances due to how many people were able to to get multiple free games. If you consider the odds of getting a single game is 20 to 30 in how many thousand the chances of getting 2 games are that multiplied and 3 games that multiplied again the odds of getting 3 games becomes so small as nearly impossible. And yet there are people who claim even more than that while other people have got no free games at all and in some case haven't even seen the free offers. There's more than just luck which makes the free offers inherently unfair to the majority of people trying for them.
avatar
jjsimp: Hell no. Die already CAPTCHA. I can't stand CAPTCHA and will avoid it like the plague it is.
avatar
Austrobogulator: I find that Captchas are fine as long as they are purely numeric ones.
Perhaps, but trying to decide if something is a zero, an O or an o is a pain in the ass.
