Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Can't wait for the next promo...this one's killing me. Also, it's getting old, not intense. (In my humble opinion)

cpucrust: Thanks for the list KJMX:

Anyways, of the remaining, are any of these Keane like time expanders?

Games that should be left to come.

Expeditions: Conquistador $4.99
Heroes of Might & Magic 3: Complete Ed $2.49
Jade Empire: Special Ed $2.99
Psychonauts $2.49
Spellforce Platinum $2.49
Sword of the Stars: The Pit $2.09
Thief Gold $1.99
Thief 2: Metal Age $1.99
Depends on how my copies are available.;)

CarrionCrow: Base game.

Khalaq: Something to keep in mind, however, is that. here on GOG.com, base games quite often become gold versions, later.
That is true. However this is the first time I can recall a base game and a gold version existing simultaneously. Usually gold replaced base. If they do eliminate base altogether and give the owners of that free upgrades to gold, I predict GOG will not be doing that anytime soon.
Please let the next one be Jade Empire, I need to sleep and then work...

jpwiseguy: I'd say Spellforce Platinum, but any of those could become a Keaner if GOG puts up too many copies. Those are all pretty popular, and a lot of people have them already.
My worry is Psychonauts...although a great game, it was in the weekend (sane) sale as well....

Shendue: Also Don't Starve. Don't Starve was slow.
I was around on that sale, and now I regret that i didn´t purchase that...

seems like an interesting game, i never heard of it before....

looked for the demo, but it seems there is none.... wishlisted for the cristhmas sale... :)

rugalb2k: Oh Gog! What are we going to do when this ends! With nothing else to look forward to! Our lives will be empty...

justanoldgamer: I've heard that those things we are buying, now you won't believe me but I swear my best friend's brother in law's cousin did it, you double click the file that end with .exe and you'll have an icon that appear on your computer screen, you double click that and it will be as if you were looking into another universe and you'll have actual control on some of the things that happen there.
But it will never be as thrilling as waiting anxiously in front of the screen with your mouse pointer upon the buy button and your fingers crossed in your left hand. I am so addicted to this sale. Nothing will be the same ever. 22 new games in my library. Thanks GOG.

howardc007: Maybe GOG should make these bears with the globe on its back either as a t-shirt or a plush toy as a souvenir to commemorate the sale.
A plushie with the bear holding the globe, and the globe having the word "Keaned" written on both sides.

Tolmar: K-virus surely?

EX-Deimon: I see what you did there! Indeed. I've only had a couple of 1 hour nap intervals for the past 3 days from around 5am.
Yeah, pretty much the same, forced to get 5 hours last night so I could vaguely operate at work, but apart from that no sleep

Shendue: Also Don't Starve. Don't Starve was slow.

dedoporno: Yeah, that WAS slow. They overdid it with that one. 1500 copies and it wasn't so cheap, also...
I ended up being force... ehm I mean able to buy one thanks to that, and I. do. not. regret.
It all depends on how many copies they're gonna give the next few games. Jade Empire is probably gonna have 1000+ copies. I do fear if they give Spellforce Platinum 600-700 copies...
Im shocked that people dont have Duke. GoG gave the game away not too long ago.
Post disappeared... I have seen some "how much I saved" posts but anyone figure the savings per hour wasted? hehe

BananaJane: Well, you don't need to, sometimes they just add a manual or art
avatar
gogbot: I have a question along these lines as well. Does the GOG Downloader recognize if there is a new version and/or extras and only download them if they are indeed newer?
It depends... If it is a new patch to a game then the answer should always be "yes", it will download new patches automatically however you have to install it manually. If it is a whole new installer executable the answer is "it depends", where it depends on what actually changed. If it is just a change from the installer version 1.x to the new installer version 2.x or other minor cosmetic changes that don't really affect gameplay or similar then GOG does "silent updates" where the files are updated on the download page but they have flagged it to not notify the downloader to download it as it is a minor change that doesn't affect an installed game for the most part. That is likely to avoid wasting network bandwidth both on the GOG side and also on the customer side as many customers wont want to download 12GB of a new installer file just because it has an updated installer or similar.

Some folks like to keep their digital downloads backed up locally and always have the absolute newest versions of all the GOG game files on their hard disk as a backup at all times. There is no easy automated way to do that currently, but there is a forum thread that keeps track of updates that get released by GOG whether or not they trigger notifications and whether or not they actually announce them or not. Some of the GOG developers will occasionally post a comment in the thread about a silent update to assist people who care about it in keeping their collections up to date. A combination of using the GOG downloader/updater, and following the forum thread can keep your collection fairly up to date, but there's still manual effort required currently.

Someone will likely eventually create a backup tool for GOG that automates all of this I imagine.

Hope this helps.

Kaitu: Which is sad because that game has been the best surprise of this sale for me. :-)
I haven't had the chance to take a deeper look at it and at the moment I don't even want to. My catalog of games to play is over 100 and it keeps going up because of sales like this GOG! I blame you for this!! I CAN'T PASS UP SUCH GOOD DEALS, DEMET!!

Now about that Thief 2...
