Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

cjc7: I'd really like to hang in to see how it ends. Will it end with a bang ? or just go away ? Been here this long, hope to see some fireworks or something.
avatar
ALH: Yeah me too.Maybe offering a game free or reduced that hasn't been part of the promo yet.that is one thing they could add if GOG ever does this again, and i hope they do, is some random games exclusive to the respective round to keep things even more exciting.
It would be nice if they let you purchase one of your missed games for the sale price...

dal4fsu: Just noticed the ZORK ANTHOLOGY on the front page. I only own Grand Inquisitor, but haven't yet played it. What do you all think of the series?
Zork 1/2/3 are very old classic games from the early 80s. They were the AAA game titles in their day and quite an awesome adventure series for the timeframe. Just about everyone either had Zork or played it and loved it. Having said that, those games are very very old and realistically I imagine only people who played them growing up in the 80s and have nostalgia for the games would be thrilled about them compared to everything that has happened since then. They are text-only games with no graphics whatsoever, which a part of a story scenario is on screen to read, and you have a command prompt to enter commands to the game like "GO NORTH" and "EXAMINE MAILBOX" and you have to draw your own map on paper. They are quite difficult compared to today's games also, and only a die hard nostalgia buff would likely play them nowadays, or someone who is deeply interested in gaming history and wants to time warp back to the 80s to try out some of the earliest of video games.

If anyone decides to take the Zork 1+2+3 challenge I must warn you in advance... DANGER LURKS AT EVERY TURN...
and beware... YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE EATEN BY A GRUE.

KMJX: First come First serve, but I'm still giving away one more NWN Key sometime later, and everyone present will have a shot at it, no ninja skills required.
Came back to the thread at the right time.

ClaudioAGS: not quite... most of the time I could only hope for at least seeing a bear... the freebies just blinked on the screen...
avatar
howardc007: Maybe GOG should make these bears with the globe on its back either as a t-shirt or a plush toy as a souvenir to commemorate the sale.
Wouldn't this be the parts of the sale that DIDN"T go well for GOG? :D

Don't think they would want to highlight kuma-san's appearances
high rated
So I guess I missed the chance to get The Lords of Midnight. damn I should have stopped thinking at the first round.

Anyways I've sent to someone some games, but he did not redeem them since 5 months, so I guess if anyone want to play Zork 1-3 and Zork Grand Inqisitor:

1. CLZJ-
2. QXFD-
3. TE8T-
4. Q85H

8=9
5=6

Have fun with it.

Yeah, that WAS slow. They overdid it with that one. 1500 copies and it wasn't so cheap, also...

Yeah, that's a great idea.
avatar
Shendue: It's not surprising, considering that Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square after FFX and that Nomura, which was a character designer, not a game designer, was put in charge of the series.
avatar
darthslyguy: Actually, Sakaguchi left Square shortly after X-2 was finished, his last projects there were Kingdom Hearts, XI, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and X-2 (in order).
I was pretty sure X was his last work as lead designer. Maybe he was just supervisioning X-2?

that's a great idea. I'll buy the plushie.

rugalb2k: Oh Gog! What are we going to do when this ends! With nothing else to look forward to! Our lives will be empty...
How about playing the games you bought in this sale? ;)
This sale is so addictive. I already have a backlog of 10 new games to play... but after watching some videos and reviews, Conquistador looks mighty fine too. If it shows up while I'm still up I won't be able to control myself. :D

rugalb2k: Oh Gog! What are we going to do when this ends! With nothing else to look forward to! Our lives will be empty...
I've heard that those things we are buying, now you won't believe me but I swear my best friend's brother in law's cousin did it, you double click the file that end with .exe and you'll have an icon that appear on your computer screen, you double click that and it will be as if you were looking into another universe and you'll have actual control on some of the things that happen there.
avatar
jackster79: I would say that you will be able to get to where you need to go and not miss anything - this one seems to have slowed enough for that (assuming it is 25 min away from GOG from what you are saying).
avatar
mudd1: Yep, made it back well in time :)
Just think if you decided to wait it out. XD

Well... I'll be vying for a t-shirt when it comes out:

'I survived the Keaning and all I got was this lousy T-shirt'

Ppl will look crossways at me but hey!
